First height map not good

I did my first height map and not to happy

Did quad gantry level complete without issue?

Turn your build plate over and run it again. I’ve never seen one corner bent up that sharply

I redid the quad gantry leveling its stop just like this .

I think it went through it ok . I also flipped the builder plate over a this is my new height map .

I am starting to get frustrated with this already . I have done the leveling and setting the z offset 5 times . I don’t know if I am doing something wrong but it is joy storing the offset I set it to .

Hello,
Have you contacted Sovol’s technical support team?
Please send an email to info@sovol3d.com and include your order number.

You cropped the picture of the mesh such that the RANGE doesn’t show. What is it?

Quick fix is to use tape to level out the top of the magnet sheet.

I will print the bed tool and see how that goes . Might try tape or spacers . Another issues I am having is I go through the z offset calibration set it . Then if the machine gets turned off the z offset changes . This printer is frustrating me .

Doesn’t “Home All” tap the pressure pad behind the bed? Once you set the Z offset between the pressure pad and the build plate “home all” should be all you need.

The need to run quad gantry level every time you turn on your printer is universal among “flying gantry” printers with 4 Z motors. The gantry “sags” when the motors are off. there is no way to predict how far and if all 4 corners will be the same.

Honestly now that you say that I don’t think I have ever seen it click in that . When I first got the printer matterhackers sent me a firmware to upload on it because I would not boot up at all after I first built the unit .

I am really starting to not this printer . The guy from Matterahacker who Ingot my printer from told me to update my firmware . I did and now look at my height maps .

You MUST run quad gantry level EVERY time you turn on your printer.

All flying gantry printers are prone to uneven power off sag in the 4 corners of the gantry. When you power on Klipper has no idea if the gantry is level. All measurements for all motion axes are measured in steps. At power on all step counts are set to 0. Until the QGL and Home All are run those 0 points are meaningless.

Here is what I have been doing

Turn the printer on log into the printer . Warm the bed up to temp , do a QGL , Set z offset in klipper . Do a height map then try a print . Am I doing something wrong

No, your process is correct. Your results seem weird. QGL should adjust the stepper counts to put the 4 corners in the same (virtual) plane. Your mesh shows them all over the place…

Put a couple circles of paper under the middle of your build plate (on top of the magnet sheet) One 8" circle and one 5". Arrange with the centers aligned.

QGL, Z offset and Mesh. Post the results.

I will do it tomorrow and post back . Just got home from work and have to be back up and at it again in 6 hours . Long day

Ok I did the paper circle thing and here is my new height map .

Should this line be uncommented

Mesh looks much better. Makes me trust the process.

You can:

  1. Reach out to sovol support and wait 2-3 weeks for part shipping,
  2. Sand down the high spots on the magnet.
  3. Use tape to “shim” the low areas of the plate.
  4. All of the above.

I’d choose option 4 with the mesh you posted. Use a large sanding block with 120 grit on three high corners. go slow and run a mesh (cold) often to see the changes. The “dust” will be hard to wipe away. be sure magnet is clean BEFORE placing the build plate.

Once the range is below 0.5mm switch to shimming with tape. I used aluminized mylar duct tape. 2" Kapton would look less janky but I had the duct tape on hand.

As for your [probe] configuration, I believe Z offset is determined with a different section in printer.cfg. It gets written below the —do not edit ---- line and changes if you do “baby steps” and then ‘save settings’

I have been going back and forth with Sovol about the bed . If I mess with it a void my warranty and it’s not even a week old yet . Also I have don’t the z offset in klipper after I get it to where is feels good on the filler gauge and click save it restarts klipper and my setting is gone . It’s like the board is not storing the change .

Sovol won’t ask for the old parts back. If you skip sanding the tape peels off easily enough if they do.

No Mattershacker will void my warranty. It’s not just the bed it’s the fact that z offset won’t stay on the board . I have tried to set it from the screen , I have tried to set it in klipper no matter what I do it will not save to the board . So I have two issues going on right now
