SV08, endless scrap? Sovol's support fails

I ordered an SV08 on April 18, 2020 and then received it at the beginning of July 2024.
From the beginning I had problems with the Z-Offset, which destroyed a printing plate and a nozzle, so I contacted the support.
Support then replaced this for me.
(25.7.2024).
Z-Offset had to be adjusted +/- 0.4 each time, but I just worked with it.

In December I contacted support again because the printer continued to have Z-Offset problems and regularly canceled printing or shifted the layers.
(31.12.2024)

The only reply was: “Hello,
It is recommended that you re-adjust the level of the hot bed,
print and adjust the offset value of the horizontal test model, and save it.”

When asked, the following answers came “Hello,

We recommend that you follow the steps below to troubleshoot and provide us with feedback.

  1. it is not recommended to print a model of too large size on the hot bed. If the hot bed is not adjusted properly, the model will be damaged and waste materials. It is recommended to print a smaller model and print it several times.
  2. please refer to the flashing video to refresh the SV08 firmware, reprint the model, and observe the effect of the model.”

(three mails, 31.12, 2.1, 8.1.2025)

After 11 more emails, a tracking number with the first spare parts arrived on 5.3:
A hotend and a filament sensor

Nevertheless, the errors “mcu ‘extra mcu’ shutdown” and error nr 3 remain.

then, on 12.3 i recived a mail to do a firmwareupdate - i dit it, nothing changed.

on 14.3 they sent me these parts:
Hotend Adapter Kit
flat ribbon cable

Unfortunately that didn’t help either, still the same problems.

Answer:
“Dear Customer,
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re still facing the issue, and I understand how frustrating this can be. Let’s go through a couple of steps to resolve this:
Check the Adapter Board and Cables:
The firmware on the adapter board might be different. Have you already tried replacing the adapter board and data cables?
If Replacing the Adapter Board and Cables Doesn’t Help:
If changing the adapter and cables did not resolve the “time too close” error, please follow these steps:
Access the Mainsail interface on your printer.
Take a screenshot of the error message in Mainsail and note the exact time the error occurs.
Download the log file from the Mainsail interface and send it to us for further analysis.”

Yes, i did everything.

On April 2, I received an e-mail that I should reflash the firmware on the mainboard and the print head with the STLINK emulator, and I also received new circuit boards for the print head.

After flashing, the prints stop again, Eroor code 14, and “mcu ‘mcu’ shutdown”

Answer from Sovol:

  1. check the printer connection: First, make sure the printer connection is normal. Check whether the printer’s power cord, data cable, and extruder adapter cable are plugged in tightly.
  2. restart the computer: If the above steps do not solve the problem, try restarting the computer.
  3. if it does not work, you need to refer to the following tutorial to refresh the firmware of the adapter board and motherboard, and give us feedback.
How to burn firmware to the motherboard/adapter board How to burn firmware to the motherboard/adapter board | Sovol 3D Printer Wiki
  4. restart the printer and connect to the printer wifi, select show IP on the knob screen, enter the ip address displayed on the knob screen from the computer, and enter Mainsail;

  5. after successfully connecting to wifi, please remember your machine ip address. We will need you to provide a screenshot of the error message on the Mainsail interface so that we can better troubleshoot the machine for you;

All done, even if I don’t understand what my PC has to do with the problems with the printer.
Now my camera no longer works either.

I really don’t know what to do anymore.

It just stopped working…

I really don’t know what to do anymore.

I haven’t been able to use the printer since 31.12.2024, over 45 emails have been sent back and forth, but my printer doesn’t work.
How can I proceed and put pressure on them to help me?

I don’t care how, refund the money or send a new printer, but I have to finally get a solution!

Is there anyone in the forum who can help me in any way?

Not much help except this

The Host referred to in the error is the machine running Linux and under that klipper. The SV08 mainboard includes BOTH a SBC (equivalent to a raspberry Pi) and a MCU “board”. The software treats them as separate devices even though they are on the same circuit board.

As for pressure… did you buy direct or via Amazon? Bad review there might help.
I’m not on FaceBook but daily posts with pictures might get some action.

I understand you but what is this torture print? You tried to print with supports on 100% of bed capacity? Honestly that is probably not realist to hope to print it successfully without big improvements of the basic SV08 + fine tuning.
So yes, you will have to spend more time to tune it (isolate the issue, find the blocker, try again, etc). For the price, I do not find that too unexpected (that is just my own opinion, I understand the frustration anyway).

I understand that a large print will not be perfect without improvement. But when I buy a printer with a 350x350m print bed, I expect it to be able to print a 300x240mm part!
But for the printer to stop at 50% and claim that it’s finished, that it shifts the layers by 2cm, that it simply switches off, that’s something I really don’t expect and have to accept.
That the first layer is not perfect, ok, but basically working, I definitely expect that.

The printer is currently unusable, I can’t even finish smaller prints and Sovol is unable to repair the device.

I’m still new to Klipper, so bear with me.
If the print says it’s finished, wouldn’t this be a Klipper or Slicer problem..??
I do know from just a couple months of Klipper that on my prints Klipper/Obico say’s it’s finished 100%…that it usually has 45 to 90 min left till the print is actualy finished.
I’ve done a little searching into this & it is an issue that Klipper can’t get the print time right.
That said, your is the opposite..yours say’s it’s finished 1/2 through a print.
I have left my OS stock, have you changed anything with Klipper trying to fix this issue..??
Are you on Sovol’s Klipper or Full Mainline..??

You have right to expect that… but no that will not works like that (we had all the same experience related to that). I had an Ender 3 (2018) before to get the SV08 so i am used to fix lot of thing by myself.

So you can :

  • Ask for a refound. I do not trust that Sovol will accept that but you have right and they did not respect the promise.
  • Fine tune it : find the root cause, fix it, adjust, and… iterate multiple time => I know that i have to do that before to bought it so I on my side the deal is respected. I bought a voron 2.4 for less than 50% of kit price (and “plug and play”). For sure that is a built very low cost so that is not the same quality.

For me the second option match my requirements. That allow me to understand each part of my printer : that is part of the fun + that help my to know exactly what i have to do to improve the result quality, the speed or the cost. In term of durability, i trust that is a good choice (all part is documented and the software is open source).

If you need help to fix it and/or fine tune, give more input, we will try to help you. The questions of Lion is a good start.

SV08 - overcoming high-temperature Klipper Shutdown problem - my solution

i use everithing stock sovol, i didn’t changed anyhing (exept of infill-density and things like this)

I tried a smal print today, 80mm x 55mm, it also failed :frowning:

Which information do you need to help me with this problem? should i change the emmc?

Try printing the pre-sliced bunchy.

Completely take your slicer settings off the list of potential causes

Also upload your printer.cfg

3DBenchy_Normal_27m.gcode
In case you need it

M140 S65 ;set bed temp
M104 S235 ;set extruder temp
M190 S65 ;wait for bed temp
M109 S235;wait for extruder temp

Use generic PLA

I will try to help with a few things I have learned with mine..

Running the eMMC with very little free space will cause many errors to happen. It is a computer so the same way you do not let your PC hard drive get too full or you will have problems.. Here is how to check the available space on your eMMC.
SSH into your printer and enter the command dfrs if you get an error enter this command to install it.

sudo apt install dfrs

This will give you the available space on your eMMC module you should have 25 to 30% free space to prevent errors from happening. It will appear in red if it is too low, If less than the recommended amount start erasing gcode files and timelapse files. You can back them up before you delete them if you want them.

Layer shift is typically a result of unbalance tension on your x and y belts or too little or too much tension. You can download an APP called Carbon Drive (by Gates) from the APP store. Follow this guide to set the proper tension and balance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n_p33_o6dQ

It is somewhat reliable but I use the BIQU Belter tension tool which I find is very reliable and much more accurate. GitHub - bigtreetech/Belter-belt-tension-Tool: Belter belt tension Tool Info Page

Where to purchase.

Good luck.
