Persistent Z-Offset Issues with 0.6 and 0.4 Nozzles – Any Solutions?

Hi everyone! :waving_hand:

I’ve been struggling with layer adhesion issues on my SV06 Ace ever since switching to a 0.6mm nozzle. I’m using Sovol’s default settings from OrcaSlicer Beta 2, but I just can’t get a proper first layer or good adhesion between layers.

At first, I thought it was just a bad profile for the 0.6mm nozzle, but even after switching back to the official 0.4mm nozzle, I encountered the exact same problem. It seems like my Z-offset isn’t being calculated correctly, no matter what I try. :man_facepalming:

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: What I Have Tried

:white_check_mark: SET_GCODE_OFFSET: I’ve tried manually setting different offsets with various values, but I always get the same results.
:white_check_mark: Thorough Bed Cleaning: I made sure the print bed was perfectly clean, thinking maybe residue was affecting adhesion, but that didn’t help either.
:white_check_mark: Manual Adjustments: The only way to get a decent first layer is to manually adjust the offset every single time using babystepping, which completely defeats the purpose of having an automatic sensor. :exploding_head:

This issue has been frustrating me for quite some time, and honestly, my Ender 3 with an SKR board is giving me far fewer headaches than the SV06 Ace right now.

:red_question_mark: Possible Solutions

:light_bulb: Would switching to Kliky help with better Z-offset calculations?
:light_bulb: What about BTT’s Eddy Coil sensor? Would it provide a more reliable offset reading?
:light_bulb: Could the HX711 sensor implementation in the main Klipper branch be more refined?
:light_bulb: @sovol3d, is there any chance of an official firmware update that integrates the mainline HX711 sensor improvements?

Right now, I just want my prints to be consistent and hassle-free without having to adjust the Z-offset manually on every print. If anyone has any suggestions, modifications, or even firmware tweaks, I’d love to hear them! :folded_hands:

Hi @sovol3d,

I’m still struggling with first-layer adhesion on my Sovol SV06 Ace, and I’m hoping to get some advice. I’ve tried several adjustments, but I can’t seem to get a consistently good first layer.

:white_check_mark: What I’ve Tried So Far:

:straight_ruler: Bed Leveling – Multiple auto-leveling cycles and careful Z-offset adjustments.
:bar_chart: Probe Accuracy Tests – The probe readings seem reasonable, but the first layer is still inconsistent.
:soap: Bed Surface & Cleaning – I clean the bed regularly and have tried different surfaces (PEI, glass, etc.), but the issue persists.
:control_knobs: Filament Settings – Adjusted flow rate, temperature, and first-layer speed, but no major improvements.

I’m attaching some images to help diagnose the problem:

This helped me, it might work for you.
The Ace profile is set to Smooth Plate only.
If you click on Objects, you can change it to Textured Plate.

But, the setting doesn’t hold, you have to re-do it each time you open Orca.

I’m using the latest beta version of OrcaSlicer, which includes support for multiple print beds, and I’ve selected the one you mentioned.

I mentioned it, because unless the Orca Beta changed it, you can’t change plates from the top…it’s shaded out.

Yeah, Orca beta changed It. Now you can change It.

Reading Discord today, it seems you fixed this problem with a new heater..??

No, but that was part of the problem. I’m now implementing Klicky.
