I broke my thermistor

One of the thermistor cables broke while I was sliding the silicone sock back on (so delicate!). I can’t order a replacement from the Sovol shop in the EU. Surely it’s just a standard part that I can source locally?

Contact Sovol & see if they will send you a replacement: info@sovol3d.com

That happened to me , and i bought a Micro swiss flowtech hotend…

They don’t make a hotend for the Zero, only the SV08.

The Zero thermistor is specified in printer.cfg as follows:

[adc_temperature my_thermistor_e]
temperature1:25
resistance1:1268.60
temperature2:180
resistance2:1920.98
temperature3:300
resistance3:2398.52

The resistance values are obviously calculated. Measuring resistance to 6 significant digits is a NON TRIVIAL task.

It seems to be a PT1000

I don’t find a RTD that will fit at Amazon or AliExpress.

BUT if Sovol can’t get you one in a reasonable time frame get a thermistor for a Bambu X1

And edit the [extruder] section of printer config from

`heater_pin: extruder_mcu:PB7
sensor_type: my_thermistor_e
pullup_resistor: 11500`

to

heater_pin: extruder_mcu:PB7
#sensor_type: my_thermistor_e #Sovol RTD1000b
sensor_type: Generic 3950 #Bambu X1 substitute
pullup_resistor: 11500

The pullup is not optimal but it should work until the RTD becomes available.

No dimensions on the sensor end but the pictures show it is MUCH smaller than the connector.

All that work to save $1.32 and it still might not fit.

It’s not about $ it’s about lead time.

OP indicated Sovol parts are currently UNAVALIBLE.

So you might be willing to wait 6 weeks to forever, others might not

Side note I’m waiting for Sovol to ship a cable ordered on 20 April that they assured me was in the US warehouse.

I know…I guess my sarcasm didn’t come through.

I hope Microswiss makes a FlowTech hot end for the Zero. I’m not interested in a performance upgrade. The Zero hot end is already very high performance at 50 mm^3/s. I want a Microswiss hot end for compatibility with my FlowTech nozzles.

On the plus side, at least Sovol made the Zero hot end so there is no need to remove and reinstall the heater and thermistor, as is required on the SV08. I just ordered the Microswiss CM2 MK8 nozzle with a hardened M2 steel tip so I can see if it’s truly compatible with the Zero. Sometimes a nozzle is MK8 compatible in theory but not in practice, with a slightly different length, or threads that are just a little too short or too long. I needed a clog free 0.6 mm nozzle for PETG-CF and other abrasives and the Microswiss nozzle with the steel tip should work better than the Sovol supplied 0.4 mm all steel nozzle that will have much lower thermal conductivity.

I’m half tempted to make the Microswiss hotend work, but it’s about 10mm shorter than the Zero’s stock hotend and I don’t know if the Z leadscrews and linear rails have an extra 10mm of travel in them.

No extra travel needed if you lower the MS heatsink.

3 issues:
Heater wire length
Zero expects a PT1000 not the 10K thermistor
clearance for the lowered fan not tested

Attached file has NO added clearance for holes!
MS on Zero v1.step (95.0 KB)

This looks like it’s available to the EU.

Lowering the fan hits 2 screw heads

But if your invested in FlowTech nozzles already cutting slots in the fan housing wouldn’t be hard.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding spacers between the part that runs along the Z rails and the bed holder.

Added bonus: If I design the part right, I can mitigate some of the front to back tilt of my print bed.

Raising the bed runs into a few issues.
