Every Other Print Results in a Layer Shift

I’ve had my SV06 Plus ACE for about 3 months. This is my second 3D printer. When it works, it’s great. In the beginning, I had some layer shifting, so I disabled z-hop, which seemed to help. Recently though, literally every other print results in a layer shift. First layers are always perfect. Layer shifts happen at different heights. Then I calibrate, which fixes the issue for one print. Then…layer shift again. I know there are about 100 things that could cause this, from factors involving the machine itself, to the slicer settings, to the filament, even environmental factors. But calibration seems to help temporarily. What might be a recommended course of diagnosis/action to take to solve this issue for once and for all? Printing in plain ole PLA.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your SV06 Plus ACE!

Unfortunately, this layer shift issue is not uncommon and occurred during the very first high-speed test prints. Calibrating the X-axis helped, but didn’t provide a permanent solution. Essentially, only one option remained: reducing the print speed. While the printer can print quickly, it then becomes unreliable.

Most layer shifting is cause by the print coming loose from the bed & the print continues.
The nozzle hitting the infill will also cause a shift.
Also, loose belts.

These are the main 3 things to look at.

Also check your nozzle is tight and the heat block mounting screws are tight.

I once spent 2 full days wasting filament before discovering my nozzle was unscrewing itself. I’ve seen reports of loose heat block screws causing issues too.
