Boot Loop, USB-OTG doesn't work

Hello, I would be grateful for advice. I tried to follow the firmware flashing tutorial, got to the point where I switched MODE and pressed reset button. Unfortunately the printer is in boot loop, the LCD screen turns on, keeps running for 2-3 seconds and then goes black, restarts. The lights on board turn on, green light blinks twice, then it restarts. No device is found when using the rkdevtool. The board is Sovol RG-4Z V1.3. Maybe I have messed up something during that flashing procedure. Is there any way to go back to normal operation or reset again, so that device is available through USB-OTG? Thanks.

Hello,
If you follow this guide exactly, it should work without any problems.
One reason it might not be working could be a damaged motherboard…
If your warranty is still valid, send an email to info@sovol3d.com with your order number and a description of the problem.
They will likely send you a new motherboard.
Best regards

Thank you. Actually the issue was the switch on the motherboard, which was not documented in the manual. It has to be switched to “OTG” instead of “HOST” to make the Maskrom visible and I’ve missed it.

Now I’m having issues with flashing the device, not sure what boot loader should be used, it doesn’t say exactly which loader bin file should be used. I’ll try some more with the RkDevTool.

Edit: Probably emmc is failing, since it’s reported as 0 MB when checked with RkDevTool. Oh well. How I wish this device just had an SD card slot, lol.

Where did you buy your eMMC?
If you bought it from Sovol, it’s the same thing—contact them.

Turns out eMMC was not the issue at all

So actually let me write this down because maybe it will prove useful for other beginner such as myself or people struggling with similar issues:

  • make sure everything is connected correctly, double check if you disassembled anything, there’s quite a bit of small pieces
  • check that the switch on board is set to “OTG” if you want to put your machine into Maskrom
  • use dupont cable when shorting the MODE; I found it quite hard to do with tweezers
  • download the exact tools from the Google Drive & make sure you have enough disk space

I’m happy that the machine is back! Marking this one as solved.
