Help booting sv08

I recently purchased a used SV08 and wanted to reflash to stock firmware. I used the original eMMC and now nothing will boot, and the screen won’t even show a backlight with either emmc now. Fans and leds all work but no boot. I am waiting for a support response as well, please help.

Hello,
If you bought your printer from Sovol, please send an email to info@sovol3d.com, stating your order number and describing your problem.
They will get back to you promptly.
If you bought it elsewhere, please send an email to the same address explaining your problem.
I think they’ll still be able to help you.

Do you have a HDMI monitor or TV you can plug into the mainboard HDMI out? The BIOS on the embedded PC should write an error that may help.

I suspect a bad flash. Did you use Sovol’s recommended tool or Etcher to flash the EMMC?

Yes I did, I have re-flashed the same emmc a few times with no success on various flashers too with no difference. I didn’t know a monitor would help I will try that now.

Ok it will connect to a monitor, it is giving MCU protocol error saying MCU needs updated. I should probably be able to figure that out. Thank you.

So it boots thru to KlipperScreen? I expected a linux file system error.

The stock knobscreen is a slave to the MCU. It won’t come up till the MCU initializes. I wonder if there is custom FW in the display? Seems like there should be a splash screen pre MCU connect.

OK I am back at it, so my screen won’t turn on but klipper screen says “MCU Protocol error. This is frequently caused by running an older version of the firmware on the mcu. fix by recompiling and flashing the firmware.”
This printer was on mainline so maybe the mcu is flashed to that somehow? Should I just try to go back to mainline? I was planning to anyways but wanted to get it working well stock first.

I very much suspect your MCUs (you have 2) are running newer firmware than Sovol supports.

First question are the mcus running Sovol’s bootloader?

Do you have a ST-link dongle?

Does your printer have Sovol’s eddy probe upgrade?

Does your printer have any 3rd party hardware (beacon or BTT eddy)?

Yes I have a but eddy probe and an st link dongle. I don’t know what they are running, but I would assume not the sovol bootloader if it’s not supported.

How is the eddy wired? Is it a “Duo” running in USB mode or a plain “coil” attached to the toolhead board? Is the stock proximity switch mounted and wired?

Did you backup the EMMC before you wiped it?

If you want to get to a “Stock” baseline follow the MCU flashing instructions for the eddy upgrade but flash the precompiled FW extracted from the recovery image for a “regular” SV08. 7 Zip will allow you to extract from the image but here is a copy:

H616_2.3.3_debian_sovol-2.3.3.img-1.img-homes-ovolk-lipper-out-klipper.bin (35.1 KB)

I ended up just following the entire guide on converting to mainline and have finally just gotten it working. Everything started to work again when I reflashed the mcus so that was definitely the issue. I just finished up my first print so thank you for the help!
