My SV08 just arrived today. I plan on mainlining it, do I even need to start it up as is? Is there firmware needing to be updated w/ Sovol code? If I have a spare EMMC, can I just start off the new Klipper image, on the new EMMC?
Your questions should be directed to the developer who authored the version you plan on using.
Note: The mainboard has both a pi (equalivent) SBC and the MCU. The image on the EMMC only runs the SBC. There is no way to simply connect the MCU to a different computer to update the bootloader and/or flash firmware. There is a second MCU in the tool head (combined extruder and hot end) but it uses a USB connection and could be flashed from a separate computer.
I’m 90% certain you’d be fine swapping the EMMC before first boot but you need to understand how and when the main MCU gets flashed. There could be need for proprietary Sovol code to put the MCU in a state to be flashed.
I highly recommend starting it up before you start the mainline process. You will need to know your serial numbers from the MCU of the Main Board and the MCU from the toolhead board. you can get them one of 2 ways.
Open your printer.cfg file and look for the lines as is pic.
SSH into your printer with putty and enter this command to pull out your serial numbers.
ls -la /dev/serial/by-id/
