I’ve bought a SV08 for X-mas, and it mostly prints well, as long as I only print small things. But of course, I’ve bought the big printer because I plan to print big things in near future.
For now, I’ve tried to print 5 copies of a small item distributed across the bed, and all except the central one failed. The adhesion is OK in about the area that is covered by the “Calibrate Z-Offset” test print.
Filament type is PLA.
I’ve tried:
Z gantry level
Leveling the bed, also “Mesh”
Calibrated Z-Offset
Pre-heated the bed for about 1 hour
Build plate is new and cleaned, not touched after cleaning
Both sides of the build plate
New filament (opened 2 weeks ago)
Brim
Raft
All without success. What else can I do?
One of the things I would like to print is a large model of the Eiffel Tower (should work without supports). It will have contact to the build plate only in the corners. The way it is now will not work.
The SV08 is my second printer. My old one was a Tevo Tornado, and after about 8 years, it gave up, but that’s OK for such a cheap device. It had a print bed of nearly the same size, and I’ve never had bed adhesion problems with it.
Until Christmas 2024 when I promised my wife an oversized spiragraph set to gift to a friend in PETG. After using ALL my mad skills I had a bunch of pringles and no useable gears.
Hurt my pride but I gave in and went to the dark side. Problem solved.
I support your right to fight the good fight. I just want crap to turn out.
But before that, I’d like to know if it has any effect on how the first layer looks, because in other planned projects, this will be the “front panel” of cases for electronics etc.I also would like to know if some cleaning is needed on the printed parts.
I use a plastic scraper in a drawing motion to “shave down” any high spots. I find the bottom surface to be smoother than without glue. Any residue can be wiped off with a damp cloth.
I rarely wash my plates any more. After 3 coats of glue just use a damp paper towel to “refresh” the glue. It feels slick when wet. If the towel drags apply a tiny bit more and rerefresh.
If you don’t dampen and wipe you WILL see a line if you print across the edge where the last print was. Brims are still advised for difficult shapes.
I never tried the Elmer’s but went to the PVA sold specifically for 3d printers so I can’t comment on how that effects surface finish.
