Nozzle replacement tightness (torque wrench?)

I haven’t swapped nozzles for the ACE yet, but will be doing so soon. (I want to swap in a hardened steel nozzle to print some abrasive filament.) Swapping nozzles always makes me nervous, because I have never had intuition for how much to how tighten them. “Enough there’s no gap with the heatbreak for filament to clog, but not enough you strip the threads.” Easy to say, but in the past I’ve stripped out an MK8 heatblock with what I thought was a reasonable amount of force, so clearly I’m not well calibrated.

I’d prefer not to do that on my ACE, so I’m curious, has anyone used a torque wrench to install an ACE nozzle? Seems like they’re cheap enough. I didn’t see a torque recommendation in Sovol’s specs (maybe @sovol3d has one), but looking online for other volcano nozzles, it sounds like 2-2.5 Nm is pretty normal… In any case, picking a wrench in that range is still probably better than me gorilla-arming the thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t tighten the nozzle that much… I would tell you to try 1-1.5nm of force, but yes, it is advisable to have a torque wrench to make sure.
In my case with 1.5nm of force I was fine.
Also see if @sovol3d can include more information on the force needed as they have in the complete nozzle replacement.

The printer comes with a wrench for changing the nozzles. The lever arm and strength of your hand should be sufficient. It is important to hold the hotend with an open-end wrench, as the hotend is not secured against twisting.

And it’s necessary to warm at 200° the hotend before trying to unmount it.

Thanks for the tips! Indeed, will hot loosen/tighten and follow Sovol’s video guide (which is pretty good overall!).

To be clear, I’m not concerned that the wrench included with the printer isn’t enough. It’s a decent one (and I’ve used a similar one on my old Ender). It’s more that I have a tendency to overtighten things and would rather take a step to prevent that. Overkill? Probably, lol, but I figured it didn’t hurt to ask (especially if Sovol does have a recommended torque they can share).

I used this on my E3P, basically just to try it out.
It does work & does a pretty decent job, never had any issues.
I’ve never tried on Volcano style nozzles though.
