I’m thoroughly enjoying my printer (when it works, camera is almost constantly not working and wifi hardly ever works)
I’m on the lookout to get a stack of nozzles, reading through various posts, I’ve seen E3D volcano mentioned, and someone specifically mentioned Mellow/Triangle Labs that work (elsewhere).
Looking at the Mellow 0.4mm nozzle, the measurements look similiar:
Why not send an email to info@sovol3d.com with your order number and an explanation of why you want to change your camera and repair your Wi-Fi connection?
Already sent me a replacement camera, that one doesn’t work either, it isn’t consistent when fiddling with wires - It can work one print, switch off/on the next day (no touching the system wires), and it stops working. In terms of the wifi, I’ve factory reset the system so many times I’ve just given up on that bit, again, inconsistent
I’m pretty sure it’s either the wiring or a dry joint somewhere, I’ll get to the bottom of it at some point, after 40 years in IT, I fully appreciate I’ve probably got the single unit 0.01% that has issues!
It seems like this topic is moving on a bit, but I wanted to add that I recently tested these knockoff CHT nozzles and they work great! I like Bondtech’s as well but they are $$. I’m using the 0.6mm size https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808562170156.html
Indeed, that was unfortunately my experience. That thread has more detail, but generally, though volcano nozzles work well enough, the cooling seems to suffer due to the reduced overall length.
It’s unfortunate because there aren’t good bimetal nozzle options for the ACE (Plus) right now, to my knowledge.
K1 nozzles almost work, but the thread on those is just a little too short for them to seal against the heatbreak, at least for me. And the heatbreaks are secured with some type of thread locker, which means it’s not just a trivial matter to screw them in further.
If I had the skills and time, I’d be interested to CAD up a more “volcano friendly” fan duct, but for now I just use my bimetal volcano nozzle only for filaments that need the hardened tip.
Here is a side-by-side comparison. Stock Sovol nozzle on the bottom, bimetal volcano in the middle, bimetal K1 on the top.
Notice the thread on the K1 nozzle is shorter than stock. Only slightly, but since the stock nozzle just barely seats on the heatbreak, the K1 nozzle doesn’t make it.
As for the the volcano nozzle, it has plenty of thread (more than stock), but overall length is way shorter, apparently enough to negatively impact part cooling.
The problem with the Ace cooling is it blows mostly down. I couldn’t figure a solution that didn’t completely hide the nozzle so I took the long way around. You’ll need a fan wire extension.
Finally got my nozzles, I think we definitely can say that YES, VOLCANO NOZZLES ARE FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH SV06 ACE, they are shorter, so you need a shorter duct, I’ve designed a duct, but it’s not fully tested so I will appreciate any help in testing and improving this model.
