Broken again!

Anyone else been having issues with changing nozzles on the sv06 Ace?

Twice I’ve swapped the nozzle and it’s then broken.
First time I twisted the thermistor wires
So that’s on me

This time, I followed the exact guidance, grabbed the heater block, tried to twist the nozzle, but it wouldn’t work. Now I’m getting an error that it’s not heating up correctly, changed the heater, same issue. Seems like at this point it’s better to have multiple heaters spare and swap the entire set out rather than a nozzle

Awful design really

Did you heat the hotend to 200° before trying to twist the nozzle?

Nozzle was heated to 250c as I’d been printing PETG so wanted to make sure it was melted

Yes, but to unmount the nozzle, you have to heat the hotend and keep it hot (mind your fingers), then, using the wrench, grab the heating block, and finally, using another wrench, twist the nozzle.

Yeah, I’ve done it previously 100 times without issue
But over time, grabbing hold of the heat block has started to cause damage.
The nozzle was heated to 250 as I was trying to remove it.
I used one spanner on the heat block
And one on the nozzle
The one on the heat block was what damaged the block as it slipped.

It’s just a very frustrating design

I had no problem changing the nozzle.
It’s probably the wrench you use to grip the heat block that doesn’t fit properly.
Have you tried replacing it with a more effective one?

I’ve ordered two new nozzle kits from Sovol direct, so will just swap these out in future.

I’m currently building an ender 3 NG, so the Sovol will soon be there purely as a backup.

For sure it’s easier to change the heat block than the nozzle, but it’s more expensive.
I’m very confident with the ACE and I like this printer.

In all Honesty, it’s been a really good printer

It’s printed all of the upgrade parts needed in PETG flawlessly
PLA has been really good
And when it works, it’s a solid machine

It’s just the nozzle design which I know has been a point of talk in the forums before

So, I’m lucky.
Good evening

Can I ask why your changing nozzles so often..??

I tend to swap between 0.6, 0.4 and 0.4 hardened steel depending on the filament and use case.

It might be easier to just buy a complete extruder, .4 on one & .6 on he other…JMO

I did the same thing when I first bought my SV06.

You need a universal heat block wrench.

The 4 inch are hard to find but worth the effort. Buy the name brand, the copies never lock properly. Yes it’ll leave a mark but being able to lock it on and leave it hang while you get the wrench situated on the nozzle is priceless.

I didn’t know there was a 4-inch length. Mine is 9 inches.
How can you use such a short wrench?

Mine are 6" total…and get your head out of the gutter

The longer the better
:joy:

Just a note of solidarity - I’ve run into similar challenges swapping back and forth between a .4 (for general prints) and .2 (for detailed miniatures). I love this machine, but find the swapping process very finicky. I had already purchased an extra heating block, but I’m considering @Lion’s suggestion of getting a whole extra extruder, since I’ve been swapping so frequently.
