Loose tensioner arm leads to extrusion stop with PET-CF

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using elegoo’s pet-cf filament to 3d print Dave Aldrich’s 6 inch astrograph. I got durozzle’s diamond .4 nozzle (with .6 on the way). First orca temperature calibration print was horrible with over hangs and bridges sagging like crazy. The flow rate calibration kept failing with extrusion stop at the 1-2 layers. I tried everything like ensuring dry filament, temperature changes, speed changes, but then finally tried tightening the extruder tensioner arm and it started printing more properly afterwards. At this point there’s no ‘give’ in the arm anymore. Has anyone come across this? Is this normal? With Elegoo PLA+ & Iemai PETG-CF, i never had to fully tighten the tensioner arm.

Welcome to the forum and happy printing!

Yes, carbon fiber reinforced filament is a bit trickier. You might run into problems with the 0.4mm nozzle. The fibers tend to clog the nozzle, and the extruder has to build up more pressure. A 0.6mm nozzle is the way to go. Unfortunately, I haven’t found my preferred 0.5mm nozzle size for this printer.

Thanks, I’ll try the .6 nozzle as it’s due to come in today.
