Layer shifts

I am experiencing X layer shifts when attempting to print large objects.
(if I print moderate objects there is no problem)
I am using Orca slicer, with PETG filament, bed temp=80degC, extruder temp=255degC

To give a little context these prints measure 19x12x4.75 inches

the print dcrcs_3d went for 19 hours but suddenly failed due to layer shift at a height of 27.5mm
(the layer shift moved to x axis by 7mm)
.
so I instituted a z hop in Orca, and cooled the X stepper motor via a fan
the print tcrcs_3d went for 24 hours and failed due to layer shift at a height of 27.5mm
(the layer shift moved the x axis 5-7mm)
.

(I have printed the dcrcs model in another orientation on my Neptune 4 Max printer with no problems…ie it is not a slicer problem)

It is extremely frustrating as I bought the Comgrow T500 because it boasted a 500mm3 print
volume.

Is the any fix for this problem?

Since it happened twice at 27.5mm, check your Z-Rods around that point for a flat spot or maybe a bind.

Also, a full pic of the model would help…
My guess is it’s a speed issue & the model might be thinner where this is happening.

here’s photos of the model

That helps with the over view. I guess I wasn’t clear, you said you printed this model before…can you post a pic of the finished model from the top & side.
Also, what infill are you using…??

15% infill, 0.8 nozzle, speed 90mm/s
I checked the Z rods and didn’t find anything amiss.

Before I tried to print tcrcs_3d in an upright position, but this failed due to 2 layer shifts
it happened about 24 hours into the print at heights 88mm and 105mm

I printed the dcrcs_3d on my Elegoo Neptune 4 Max NOT on the Comgrow
but with Orca slicer, 0.8 nozzle, 15% infill (identical to what I used on the Comgrow T500)

15% Gyroid…??
Hotend temp…??
Filament…??

You don’t have 2 shifts, it looks like 3 to me.

RED: Print issues before the shift.
BLUE: looks like the 1st shifts on the left & middle.

I still can’t tell the full issue because the are no pics of the completed print.
How about a slicer pic…something that tells me what this model is supposed to look like.
Maybe a link to the posted model.

filament PETG
hotend temp=255-260degC
15% infill cross-hatch

I can’t attach files as a new user, check your email to see the 3mf file

elegoo dcrcs_3d

email failed too big (29MB)

Looks like a timing belt cover…
Your printing that on it’s side…??

its a motorcycle crankcase half
the outer cover houses the primary drive and clutch

Are you sure for the filament temperature ?
It seems very high

The filament manufacturer recommends for petg a hot-end temperature of 230-260degC
I have set the first layer to 260 and subsequent layers to 255.

I have a question for you

is the model too complex (ie. is the file size too large)
can the file be loaded in the comgrow memory all at once?
Could that be the problem?

Honestly, I’ve never print PETG above 235° except for the temperature tower.
I’ve made a new one yesterday and found 235° as usual.

I haven’t Comgrow T500 so I can’t give you the answer.
For such a precise question, ask to Sovol at info@sovol3d.com.
Good luck

Why did you change the orientation…??
Have you tried it the way you did on the Neptune…??

dcrcs_3d is printed on the Neptune 4 max upright because it the only way to print it (just!)
my attempt to print tcrcs_3d upright on the Comgrow T500 failed because of layer shift
so, I tried to print the dcrcs_3d and the tcrcs_3d on the Comgrow T500 in the flat orientation (it saves on filament)
but once again it fails because of layer shift
cannot load the stl or 3mf because they are too big (28MB) …i’m limited to a max file size of 8mb

can the file (the gcode) be loaded into the Comgrow T500 all at once…maybe that’s the problem?
