Just a PSA for those “fortunate” enough to be running the Sovol Kliad50

My unit sh!t the bed (again) so I assumed it was (as usual) an issue with the software on the EMMC so I grabbed my USB dongle and started the process of reimaging the EMMC. Ran unto a bunch of unrelate issues with the process of using Etcher to copy the image to the EMMC but eventually got what should have been a good copy.
No Joy
Reverted back to the origonal Sovol image
No joy
put the image on the original EMMC (I upgraded to a 32GB one the first time I had to do this)
No joy

And on and on. I was convinced I had a bad RAM chip due to seeming random combinations if indicator lights on the board each time I plugged it in. Refusing to admit defeat I recalled seeing instructions for flashing an Ace mainboard so I downloaded the Rockchip tools and tried to connect to the “hidden” USBC port labeled download.
The driver seemed to take but I couldn’t get the RKTool to "see’ the board.

That’s when I happened to turn the board display side up… the damn thing is booted and waiting for me to select a language.

Long story short. The Klipad50 will happily run on 5v via the “download” USBC port. Apparently there is something flakey on my board in the 24v power system.

If yours goes down try unplugging the 24v plug and use a phone charger on the hidden USB port (have to open the housing.

Mine has the exact same issue. I tried a power adapter from a Pad 7 to power it but, still needs the Download USB power to boot up. It works fine with the Trixy IMG. just need a way to power it.

If you are under warrantee Sovol will replace it (don’t mention the works with USB power, it confused them greatly)

I considered modifying the housing to use a phone charger as a power source. I had another touch screen device laying around and converted it to a klipper host instead.

I have a NEW never been powered board Sovol sent me under warrantee. I’m planning on making it into a “home assistant” server. A $35 Orange Pi would relace it in that project. DM if you want to make an offer.

This board was already replaced by Sovol. I started to tinker with it an realized that I could get it to work… marginally.
