Force touchscreen firmware update?

Hi all,

I purchased an SV06 Plus about a year ago. On start up, my screen is stuck on the splash screen shown in the attachment. There is no animation like usually appears. This printer was working until yesterday.

This has happened once before, which was eventually resolved when I flashed the touchscreen firmware from Firmware Download – SOVOL using the method shown at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqaneIsSauM.

I tried that again, but the firmware update fails repeatedly with the second screen shown in the attachment to this post. I’ve tried using two different SD cards, but it appears that the touchscreen can read the files on the card. It just doesn’t want to update from them, perhaps because they are the same as what it previously had loaded.

I’ve also tried flashing the main board firmware as well, but that hasn’t made any difference.

Could anyone please advise on what the next step should be? Last time, it was reloading the touchscreen firmware that fixed this problem, but this time it doesn’t seem possible.

Thank you.

Hello,
When I had the same problem, after searching for a long time, I found out that the USB chipset on the motherboard was broken.
After changing the motherboard, everything went back to normal.
But I’m not sure if your problem is the same.

It has been posted a few times, that you have to rename the Bin file to something else…it won’t flash the same name flashed before.

Oh dear. That’s not good. Might need to start a returns process with Amazon then. Got something that needs printing by next week. :frowning:

The rename trick is for the firmware for the main unit. The firmware update for the touchscreen consists of many files, not just a single file. Each file seems to be named in an important way.

Oh, do you know where to get a motherboard from? Is this direct from sovol or a purchase from elsewhere?

Sovol Wiki: SV06PLUS | Sovol 3D Printer Wiki

Thanks for those links @mich0111 @Lion . Unfortunately, they don’t ship to Australia.

Sovol have a local importer, strangely with an email address that ends in @hotmail.com. I’ve written to that email address & will see what happens. The other alternative is to try Amazon’s return policy at 14 months post-purchase.

You should write at info@sovol3d.com to ask if it is possible to ship the package to you.
Maybe they can do something for you.

This could help, I had a Booting Forever display on my SV08

*Sovol SV08 Bust. System Booting forever,. With a FIX!!!

Other users report the same issue!!

Latest Firmware latest software 2.3.3

I’ve using latest Firmware software 2.3.3 without issues : I wounder if the new encloser fitted sends more heat to the Control Board and this has caused an issue; someone reported being requested to remove a resistor on the Control Board due to over heating, (DANGER of FIRE IMHO)

System Booting forever FIX. …

Action Taking

Format a USB drive as FAT 32

Copy the Firmware onto that drive, I already was using the Firmware 2.3.3, but I did this anyway.
With the SOVOL SV08 turned OFF! Placed the USB drive with ONLY the Firmware on it in to the SOVOL SV08 USB port.

Turned on the SOVOL SV08 after about 20 to a minute seconds it said “ready” on the display the SOVOL SV08 was useable again. Remover the USB drive from the 3D Printer…

Normally your asked to place the USB drive with the firmware on into the 3D Printer while the Ready display is shown but that is not possible because the Ready message is not displayed only System rebooting message until these actions are taken.

This reset all the defaults: so any changes like your config files will need changing back to how you like them, etc… This may give you a new IP address.

I carried out a quick 3D Print this was OK, the Z Probe height way off so I asked for Calibrate Zoffset from the Display It completed this test then reboot OK no issues it went to the Ready display message likewise Bed Mesh, etc… after each reboot, it when to the Ready message.

Each reboot has not got stuck in the System Rebooting message, it contuse to the Ready message
I carried out a small test 3D Print and it worked as expected this with the Z offset set by the 3D Printer

Hi,
Glad you posted your issue. I have had printer for just over a year also. I had the same problem that you listed and it started yesterday. I found the Youtube video from Sovol on the main board firmware update and the screen update. It shows how to do both for the Sov 1 and Sov 6 Plus. I would suggest doing the main board first as I did the screen first and that did not correct the issue. I then did the main board and that fixed the issue of the getting past the splash screen. I also then did the Z align and the leveling before printing anything. Printer works good now. I really like the Sovol6Plus. It is the newest I have and also two old obsolete starter units that I still use rarely.
Good luck

I meant to give the Youtube link.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the really helpful suggestions. I’ve been trying them out but nothing works. The touch screen is stuck on the splash screen. Unfortunately, it appears that @mich0111 is right. The touchscreen is just dead.

I’ve been in contact with Amazon, who have agreed to a full refund with a return which they will pay for. This is tempting as it would allow an upgrade at the same time to a newer model.

I’ve been in contact with Sovol. That info@sovol3d.com email address above just passed me onto a different @hotmail.com email address, saying that the @hotmail.com address is the Australian representative. We spent some time going through cut and paste Sovol answers and suggestions that didn’t really address the issue until eventually Sovol has also diagnosed a dead touchscreen.

The great news is that Sovol has agreed to ship out a new touchscreen to me to replace it under warranty! Even though Amazon has offered a resolution that sounds perfect, I think this is the right thing to do. I don’t really need a new model and it would be environmentally wasteful to just junk this machine if it’s fixable via a new touchscreen.

Thanks again for all your replies. I’ll let you know if the new touchscreen resolves the issue.

A new touchscreen arrived from China, courtesy of Sovol Australia, under warranty. Unfortunately, it has the exact same issue. I’ve written to inform them of this, so we’ll se what they suggest as the next step.

For those still following on, Sovol Australia has been very helpful. They got me to run some further tests on the machine using Pronterface and diagnosed a faulty motherboard. They sent this and I changed it over. This is certainly not for the faint-hearted! There are so many connectors in a small space, held on with cable ties & hot glue. Took me about 90 minutes to do the swap, but it appears to have fixed the issue. It was a faulty motherboard after all.
