Extruder knob hits cable clamp and gets broken off

More of a nuisance than anything else, but my SV08 manual adjust knob hits the cable clamp and gets snapped off. I’ve printed the one that came in the Sovol .STEP file, and even eventually beefed it up.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what was their solution?

Thanks!

John

John,
Do you mean the wheel on the back of the extruder ?
and which cable clamp do you mean exactly ? because I haven’t heard about this problem before

Yup. And the clamp that mounts to the 2020 extrusion that anchors the cable that goes to the toolhead.

It happened again tonight.

But the model that it was printing at the time shouldn’t have taken the toolhead anywhere near the clamp/mount.

And my SV08 doesn’t have a cable chain (it’s original and has no enclosure).

Thanks!

John

My extruder assembly is unable to hit that cable clamp, so my guess is that something isn’t assembled the right way.

I don’t think that it’s hitting the cable clamp, but it’s snapping off on something. Now with the beefed up knob it gets knocked off but not broken.

Given that the extruder is not putting out enough plastic at the moment, and making “wispy” prints, it isn’t getting much use.

Thanks for the response!

check the extruder idler gear pin for the under extrusion.

Thanks but that was the first thing that I checked, and everything seems to be where it belongs. The extruder teeth look clean, it could be the filament run-out sensor perhaps.

I’m beginning to suspect the filament could be oversized.

But what I really am wanting to do is to upgrade the extruder and hotend.

Thanks again!,

I might be getting caught on the umbilical cable during homing. Its raised in the picture, but if it normally droops down there it will get caught eventually. i zip tied an extra ptfe tube to it to keep it raised and out of the way.

Do you have the tool head wire harness tied to the PTFE tube with the nylon twist ties. See page 14 of the user manual. If this is not done the cable can wrap around the tool head.

I do, and despite that, the cable was catching on the knob. I caught it in the act. My “New, Improved” knob design has yet to break, but it can get pulled off.

I’ve got other issues with under-extrusion. But I’ll address that (eventually).

So, mystery solved! Thanks for the help guys!
