Extruder failure - rusty and no lube

On my SV08 Max I was getting extruder problems that seemed to be getting worse. I disassembled it and there was rust on the main gear that the motor engages with, and when I opened the planetary gear section it had no lubrication at all and was chewing up the plastic outside toothed area that the planetary gears engage with. Has anyone else had a similar issue? What sort of grease should be in the planetary box?

It seems similar to the issue this person had. I have the same brown viscous mess. similar_problem

Could you provide some photos?

@sovol3d

Photos attached. Does anyone know what lube should be used? On my standard SV08 it’s full of a white grease.

The rusty gear in your picture is the one that drives the second roller in the movable lever. No lube should be used at that location as it will migrate and get on your filament.

@sovol3d Those gears SHOULD be plated with a rust resistant material.

Send those Photos to Sovol and demand a new toolhead. My guess is that Sovol’s supplier shipped parts that were not correctly finished. Sovol didn’t notice or used them to meet production schedules with the hope they would work.

I just visited a friend who got an SV08 Max from the Kickstarter, but he hasn’t set it up yet. We opened up the toolhead and it also has no lube in it. I’d recommend everyone take a look inside theirs when they get their machine.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. You can send an e-mail to info@sovol3d.com. The after-sales staff will send a replacement to you.

Thank you, I will send an email and see how I go.

Not strictly related to topic but I realize that belts tearing down pretty badly

I still have not received the replacement, I emailed over 3 weeks ago, any idea how long it takes normally?
