I followed the instructions to install the Sovol SV08 Eddy Upgrade kit. Everything goes as expected until the Levelling → Calibrate Eddy step. On that step it seems like it crashes into the bed after two probes (motors straining and Z-belts tight) if I let it go it eventually finishes but then a Gantry level then crashes into the bed. There is a red LED on the Eddy probe but it doesn’t appear to do anything to signal a triggering of the probe.
Thanks, I found that after my crash. I watched it but not sure I’m seeing the same problem, mine is crashing before bed/nozzle heating. I’m trying his suggestions after returning everything back and starting over.
Opened issue with Sovol who sent it to Amazon since I bought it from them. I did find a newer version 2.5.0-Eddy which looked like it was doing better but then failed in the same way. Going to retry again this weekend and capture some video of what is happening.
I am running into the exact same problem. Got the SV08, Eddy Kit, and the Enclosure Kit for a School Project.
Assembly was straight forward enough and even flashing the FW included with the Eddy Kit worked fine once I reduced it down to 25khz from the 4mhz to get it to detect things, but since installation it seems the printer endlessly tries to set the Z=0 to below the print bed and it’s infuriating me. I can temporarily fix it by setting the z-offset higher, but I seem to have too repeatedly do this as the Eddy calibration seems to keep trying to bring the Z back down and when it does it’s taps to calibrate, guaranteed one of the taps will have it pushing into the bed causing the Z axis belt to skip which can’t be good for them or for the readings.
The sensor itself seems to work fine as when I can get the Z-Offset set it seems to get a good bed mesh (100% it’s a Taco) and I can get some reasonably ok prints though I’d like to be able to adjust some stuff to get that first layer better across the whole bed, but until I can get a reliable initial calibration I can’t trust this thing to not try and destroy itself every time I try and go to print.
I have done a lot of the configuration tweaks recommended in that video above which may have helped a little, but he’s having the opposite problem of the first layer being too high where mine is consistently too low and I am not sure what else to adjust that would stick and make things consistent. I’m about to adjust the offset of the eddy sensor on the toolhead itself and see if that helps.
I got 2 of these printers but I think I’m going to send one back because of how much of a pain in the butt this has been. Sad considering how much I love my SV01 Pro especially after converting it to Klipper, upgrading the heatbrake, and switching to a glass print bed it’s practically a set it and forget it setup that can’t print fast, but does print reliably without destroying itself with an old school BL Touch.
*Minor update, I just did the 2.5.0-Eddy update to the printer and after not being able to get it to do a single print all day, the first attempt seemed like the FW update as well as the config changes, seemed to improve a lot of things. The Eddy Calibration touches seem greatly softened and seem to be way more accurate, (had to still go into the Printer.cfg and adjust the X and Y steppers to 85 from 65 for their “driver_sgthrs”) the actual Z-Offset seemed to be pretty much perfect all on it’s own after it did the initial calibration process as part of the PRINT_START.
I did still have some Communication Issue with the probe happen which I am trying to figure out what/why that is happening either during the initial Nozzle Cleaning tap step, or after the cleaning and Home process again. A power cycle of the printer seems to clear it up but it’s happening enough to keep me scratching my head as everything appears to be connected and working as it should until for whatever reason, it isn’t…
