SV08MAX from shit to perfect machine

Hello there, friends.. i want to know which of Voron`s CNC machined parts can be used in SV08MAX? And the better steppers. And the better belts. And the better pulleys so do not to encountering anymore ribs on the surfaces. And better motherboard. And better Eddy probe.

Hello and welcome here,
Finally, you want to rebuild a SV08MAX totally?

Mine works pretty darn well out of the box, aside from minor issue on bed heater OT sensor location effects and the linear feeder input tension arm wanted a much stiffer spring. No print quality issues nor first layer issues. I’d like to have 9-10mm x/y belts but see no immediate reason to change much.

There are few machines that work better, even fewer the size of a washing machine.

Yep. Like every “marketind device” it needs to be Rebuilded) or like Evangelion)))

Im very happy for you, no kidding. But.. maybe you underestimated the scale of the problem. I don`t know what you are using for your 08Max, but from my machines i demand repetative result every print, i don`t have opportunity to waste time on failed prints. I got 50 ultimaker machines, 2 orangestorm giga, 10 bigrep`s and now 3 SV08MAX. And they are the only makes my angry as hulk) And SOVOL`s are piece of shiiii it need to be upgraded. SO i`m in research for opportuninties. Maybe it`s easier to thrash them and by more BigRep. But we`ll see.

Perhaps if you could describe the actual print failures you are having folks could provide some suggestions? I have run everything from TPU to PPA-CF through this thing so far, (tpu was direct run from above, not through the feeder and miles of tubing)

There doesn’t appear to be anything fundamentally wrong with the SV08 max, as far as I can tell, feeder is a bit weak but easily solved, the long filament bowden can cause issues depending on filament (smooth PLA or PCTG vs rough/stiff CF filled) etc, the hot end seems a non issue, although if running PLA at high speed might benefit from a 30mm hot end fan and/or bit of an intake seal to prevent hot air recirculation in the shroud, as some have reported clogging. (the intake and exhaust openings for the hot end cooling are smallish and not sealed to fan or hot end at all)

…and you say the MAX is a POS.

Please, don`t flood the thread. I asked for help exact way - which parts Voron (CNC machined) are compatib;e with sv08max so i can replace wobbly plastic ones. Want advice to buy better steppers, and better belts. Maybe better motherboard. And if someone knows - kit to replace hotend. NOthing more, please. If nobody knows, okay, as usual, will do it by myself, just try to save time.

Hello,
I don’t think @Piledriver 's post was out of line.
Since you haven’t explained why you want to make all these mods, he’s suggesting you use the forum to fix your fails.
So please, don’t be rude to him.
My post is just a suggestion.
Thanks
Have a nice day.

I will gladly help you spend your money, but I am a big fan of fixing the bits that are marginal or broken, first… Have been fixing complex things for a living for 30+ years, these printers are simple beasts.

Zero Voron parts are going to fit. without redesign/mods at least.

Better stepper motors? Electronics? Want 60V X/Y drivers? many recommendations out there on the Voron related sites and Reddit etc. (I would have to see data on this mod before considering it an issue)

The vast majority of Vorons use printed ABS parts. I considered printing the gantry bits from PPA-CF or PPS-CF but I am not seeing any actual issue there with the factory injection molded (ABS, I think) parts.

There is a nice SV08 Max CNC aluminum gantry kit out there, eyeballing it myself, for if I can find an excuse to spend $$$ there.(replaces the plastic bits)

There is a kit for marginally wider belts (7mm?) not sure that would be a noticeable upgrade. … given belt length, 9-10mm X/Y would make sense. Would need some redesign. The Maxs whole CAD design is on github if you want to go there. You could even pay someone to do it for you.

I suspect ~any Voron toolhead could be easily adapted, but the std toolhead board is unlikely to fit, most are made for BTT EBB36 and alike form factor, or the rectangular side mount version.

I’m not sure I’d be in a hurry to swap out the hot end itself, as it seems absolutely beastly flow wise, particularly with a CHT nozzle… but I plan on installing a pair of setscrews to actually clamp the heat break to the heatsink rather than just relying on thermal paste and good intentions

(see: any other hot end that has the heat break slide into the heat sink)

I suspect the hot end is good for a bit more than 350C… although the silicone boot might have to be replaced with a good wrap of kapton tape around woven glass or ceramic insulation. (PPS needs 350-380C) it already has a PT1000…

Wouldn’t mind having choices of extruder, I have several all metal units for K1C as spares, as well as a few std K1C units with all metal gears. The aftermarket K1C “upgrade” units are all aluminum bodies, adjustable tension, with the (double shear) extra bearings and through shafts as on K2 extruders. Aftermarket upgrade parts are readily available.(all steel gears)

Not having any extruder issues, just thinking ahead, as I don’t think Soval sells parts other than the hot end kit and whole toolhead.

I literally bought my Max to stick the INDX setup on it, so I’m not going to stress too much about aftermarket support for the std toolhead.

Heatbed… If you are having issues getting to the rated 100C, or have uneven heat, pick up some 6" wide 3m 467MP transfer tape, rated for 150C continuous/200c intermittent, and actually fully stick the heater to the bed for proper thermal contact (along with the screws) and relocate the overtemp switch to the bed itself… plenty of room at the edge. The std heater setup uses many screws but most of the heater is actually not quite in thermal contact, and the overtemp switch is attached to the bottom surface of the heater itself where the heat traces are… stick some ceramic wool insulation under it while you are at it.

There is no graphite bed available for the Max (yet) AFAIK.

I have not had an issue since I did the Unicorn hot end mod, The SV08 max is a nice machine.
