I’ve been looking at the Printables options for adding a cooling fan to the MCU case (I’ve had a few mysterious MCU shutdowns and I think it’s related to heat inside the case) and candidly I don’t want to play around with step down power controllers if I don’t have to.
My understanding is that if I have a 24 volt fan I can connect it right to the board and avoid this.
Anyone have any experience with adding a new cover and fan to the MCU ?
Also if anyone has a recommendation on a case / cover I can print out that would be great too
There is already a fan installed, have you checked that it is running…??
Why do you think the MCU is the problem, have you ruled out the power switch…??
Also, is this printer in an enclosure…??
The fan in the MCU is linked to the motors or something so it doesn’t run when you aren’t printing.
No enclosure
I had a number of “MCU Shutdowns” and reading through things it’s what I came to believe. The case is warm as well.
I know a lot of people have upgraded the fan and the choice is changing the built in fan to always be on when the printer is on or upgrade the fan to a larger fan
Someone just recommended me to wire the stock fan to the full time FAN pins to let it run whenever the printer was running. I’ll do that but I also want to investigate upgrade options
