Sovol SV08 print head front cover fell off, damaged extra_mcu board

Hi All, first time for me in this forum.

I bought a SV08, it’s only weeks old and the front blue cover (held on with 4 magnets) came off during a print and was pulled well clear of the print head. When that happened, the connector on the extra_mcu board for the front fan (P1) was torn off the board.

I see there is a spare connector on the board marked P2/Fan3, I’m hoping there is a way to use that connector as a substitute. I tried plugging the fan into P2/Fan3, the pin out drawing says it’s the same as P1, but it does not drive the fan.

Does anyone know if there is a way to enable the Fan3/P2 connector for the front fan?

I am unable to upload the pictures to help with the explanation, the forum say new users cannot upload. This link helps a bit, you will see the are 2 x Fan3 connectors, bottom right Fan3 connector is the one that was torn off, top right is the one I’m hoping to use as a subsittute

Send an email to Sovol explaining what happened, being a month old printer they might send you a board.

I agree with Lion, ask the support for replacement. That is not expected for a new regular printer.

BTW, that should works and if I dont mistake that is already preconfigured like that. I may confirm it tomorrow evening or provide the config to help for this workaround. In anyway, take care of the wire positioning (that will be close to the nozzle, do not burn the wires!).

Thanks, I did email Sovol, because I bought the printer through AliExpress they will not support it, not even to offer any advice on using the spare port. I ordered a new printhead (~$100) in the meantime but that will take weeks to arrive. I’m hoping to find a work around to get the printer going again.

That would be a great help - many thanks

In printer.cfg in Klipper → Device → Machine are all fan settings. There should be a section added for the second fan connector, if it is really a fan connector. Or better change only fan connector name PA1 of original mcu printhead fan script to PA2? Be sure to be at mcu fan settings and not mainboard fan settings.

Haven‘t tried it myself, so at oen risk.

Hello. Can you give me your order number and e-mail account by message. I contact the customer service to deal with the problem

Hi Kampfwuffi - many thanks, below is my fan config from printer.cfg. I see the only reference to PA1 is in the [heater_fan hotend_fan] section, extra_mcu:PA1 is used for the tacho pin, there is no other reference to PA1 in my printer.cfg

In the “[fan_generic fan1] # front model cooling fan” section uses extra_mcu:PB1. Is this the correct section for the front fan, mounted on the blue front cover?

I was thinking of changing extra_mcu:PB1 to extra_mcu:PB0 - I see in the pin out PDF above that P2/Fan3 and P1/Fan4 are both labelled as PB0. Am I likely to damage anything by doing this? happy to give it a try.

[fan_generic fan0] # back model cooling fan
pin: extra_mcu:PA7
max_power: 1.0

[fan_generic fan1] # front model cooling fan
pin: extra_mcu:PB1
max_power: 1.0

[controller_fan fan_generic fan3] # exhaust fan
pin: PA2
heater: heater_bed
idle_timeout: 20

[heater_fan hotend_fan]
pin: extra_mcu:PA6
max_power: 1.0
kick_start_time: 0.5
heater: extruder
heater_temp: 45
tachometer_pin:extra_mcu:PA1
tachometer_ppr: 1
tachometer_poll_interval: 0.0013

Hi Sovol3D, many thanks for the offer and I really appreciate that. As mentioned above I bought the printer through AliExpress, Order ID 3041457555465634 placed Sept 11 2024. Again today I received a mail from info@sovol3d.com saying they cannot offer any support. OK, accepted so I ordered and paid for a new print head, but perhaps you can persuade the support team just to give me advice on how to enable the P2/Fan3 port so I can use it as a substitute for P1/Fan4 port which was torn off the extra_mcu board. I will reply to your email so you have my email address, let me know if that works. - thanks again.

Good morning,

Thank you for the offer, I posted my reply in the forum.

Please use my email address: gw@whalesway.co.uk

If your technical team can just give me advice on how to enable the spare fan port P2/Fan3 I would be grateful. They say it isn’t enabled but surely there must be a way.

Thank you

Hi all - thanks for the help so far. I have had 2 emails back today from Sovol and the AliExpress support saying that P2/Fan3 cannot be used, it has not been enabled. Looks like I will have to wait for the replacement printhead to arrive

Thanks anyway

The cover is very easily detached, in my case it ripped off the connector from the fan.
I managed to repair it with some other fan I had laying around.

Does anyone know what type of connector is used ? that way I can already but some in advance for future repairs

That is a JST 1.25. That is the femal or the male who was broken ? I broken too my male plug and i bought a set like this one (it’s easier with wire included).

Look for “Micro JST 1.25 3P” (you need 3 pins, i only found a picture with 2 but it’s the same).

Sovol and the AliExpress support saying that P2/Fan3 cannot be used

That is very strange because if i read well the documentation the FAN is plugged to Fan3/PA3 and there are 2 port one the card for it. But they know better how it’s works. The only thing that i can tell is that I already plugged my fan on the secondary FAN3 connector without trouble (but i cannot unsure the validity for long period of usage, maybe there is a limitation for that).

Thanks Mistral, I tried the 2nd Fan3 (top right) port and the fan did not work, probably the board is damaged, perhaps by damaging one of the Fan3 ports both become inactive.

Hello,
You can first test the pins with a controller before change the board.
