Hello, I have two SV04 printers they are both having problems would like to just focus on the one that is kind of working first. The extruder will not feed anything. I have installed a new extruder and it still is doing the same thing. It will auto level and do all the necessary steps to start printing. Goes through the complete startup and then tries to start printing but the extruder is doing everything but feed the filament. I have checked all cables to the motherboard. I am wondering if it could be the motherboard but I am starting to get close to junking it instead of spending more money on it. Before the problem I was printing a long project and then the next morning all looked good except the print was short because it was not feeding filament. Somehow it also broke the sensor. So in short I have installed a new sensor and extruder. All looks good but there is no feeding. I also updated the firmware to the touch pad. Any advice would be helpful, thank you.
Hello zx7rcr,
first of all, welcome to the forum.
In order to help you with your extruder issue you will need to be a bit more specific:
- Did you follow the trouble shooting workflow on page 30 of the SV04 guide document & what result you came up with?
- Is the extruder stepper motor still working & able to turn the extruder wheel? This could be tested by feeding or extracting using the settings refuel menu.
- In case there is no movement resulting from the refuel menu: Is it possible to turn the extruder wheel by hand while the extruder stepper motor is still powered up?
- In the condition that all stepper-motors have been disabled via the settings menu and the hot-end of the defect extruder is heated up to filament target temperature: Is it possible to insert filament & move it by manually turning the extruder wheel? In case there are molten strings being pressed through the nozzle: does this happen, when you pull the release lever & push the filament into the extruder by hand?

Hello Bjoern,
!. The workflow offers no clear result.
2. The extruder is new I just installed it to try to solve the problem.
3. I tried to do a feed with the control panel with no result. It is free to turn by hand (with) Power on or off. It will manual feed on extrusion 2 but nothing on 1.
4. With disabled and heated up I can turn by hand to feed the filament manually. I can also push it through the nozzle by hand.
OK. So the stepper motor is lacking power. Now it will need some tests with a multimeter:
- Check the stepper motor coils: Disconnect the motor connector plug & check the electrical resistance between the 4 motor pins. There should be two pairs of pins with a low resistance around 2 - 4 Ohms in between, otherwise your stepper is defective.
- In case your motor is intact: You’ll need to check connectors and wiring between motor plug & motherboard including the gantry breakboard. Here you’ll find a documentation of the SV04 pinout. The extruder connector is marked “E”. Be sure to have the power cord disconnected before opening the printer encasement.
- In case the wiring is OK: You’ll need to turn on the printer & check voltage output between the four pins R1C14, R1C15, R2C14 & R2C15 on the motherboard. When the steppers are powered on after feeding via the settings refuel menu there should be DC voltage between at least of the two of the four pins. In case the printer is currently feeding, there should be AC voltage between two pairs of the four pins. Be careful when powering on the printer with open encasement.
- In case of missing voltage you’ll probably need to replace the TMC2209 driver chip of the very extruder or replace the complete motherboard.
Good luck!
