Sudden Banding issues near top of z axis hight

i printed this in this orientation was roughly 18 inches high and 450 mm wide surface quality was absolutely beautiful until it got to the top of the z axis any suggestions? everything else is working flawlessly you can see them and feel them but if you tilt it on the side the almost go away .

What a shame!

My first thought was change in resonance as the center of mass raised with the gantry. The pictures tell a different story. Definitely not a resonance issue.

The only thing that comes to mind is binding of the gantry at the top of the rails.

Use the jog function to SLOWLY raise and lower the gantry across the effected range. Watch closely for binding or jerky movements.

exactly my thoughts cardoc ! and did exactly that and found nothing !! all belts are tight and everything is free…. im super stumped on this… any other ideas?

I’d examine the print and try to figure out a offset vector… Was it aligned with either the X or Y axis or 45° from both. If aligned I’d focus on the Z rails if it’s 45° focus on the belts.

As a test, I’d create a 300mm single wall cylinder and slice it. Load the g-code into a text editor and delete layers 2 through (300*(1/layer height)) then “print” it with no filament loaded. Watch and listen.

defiantly in the x and y axis so create the cube and delete all the lower layers ony print the top and watch is that correct?

can you delete all the lower stuff and just leave the top inch

yes with no filament… AARGH the buffer is going to have a fit.

Load filament. Manually set your filament rate to 1% after starting the print. Small mess instead of big mess.

You can use this and tell it you failed at 300mm to "restart’ a failed print.

gcode_reCovery.exe (8.7 MB)

Here is the g-code starting at 350mm
SOVOL SV08 MAX_Cube_PETG-CF_0.2_6h12m_reCovered.gcode (750.7 KB)

wont run after it gets to 350mm due to nozzle at min temp .. and im also now having an issue when it homes it crashes int the build plate like the sensor isnt working then i restarted it and it worked then did it again totally diffrent issue
