SH02 filament dryer died -- easy fix this time

Last night I fired up my SH02 in preparation for today’s project. After setting the filament type, I opened the lid and inserted the roll. When I closed the lid, the screen went blank and the fan cut out. It was dead. The power switch light was on and cycled when I cycled the switch but the screen remained blank. I unplugged it for 10 minutes and tried again – no joy. I shut it off, unplugged it and went to bed, but this morning results were the same: power light comes on, screen stays off.

Why do these things always happen on a Friday when support has left for the weekend?

What the heck, nothing to lose. I took the bottom cover off to see if maybe a cable came loose or something and, lo and behold: A cable came loose. Specifically the ribbon cable connector to the display had fallen out of the circuit board connector. I plugged it back in and all is well again.

I suspect it worked loose over time since it shares a table with the SV07+ – a notorious bed shaker. Closing the lid last night was the straw that broke the camel’s back: just that one last tiny shock on a loosened cable that hangs underneath its connector. Too bad Sovol didn’t use a locking connector for that cable.

I may open it back up and add a daub of hot-melt glue to the thing to keep it in place.

Sounds like it could be a heat issue. Inside, things retain heat

I suppose it’s possible heat played a role – repeated thermal expansion and contraction aiding gravity to slowly work the connector apart. Perhaps a little from Column A and a little from Column B.

But whether due to vibration, thermal cycling or both, I don’t think it would have happened if Sovol had used a latching connector or a daub of glue on a wire hanging from an upside-down board.
