Hot end clogged

Hi,

Our printer was having burn marks on the filament and then started bubbling around the nozzle, so I managed to take the sock off and realised it has a clog and it’s all over the hot end. Please does anyone have ideas how to fix or clean it up or do I need to get a new hot end? I’m new to 3D printing so I’m not sure how bad this is or why it would have happened.

Hook the power back up, lay the hotend on the plate.
Set the hotend temp only to 280* wait about 10 min.
Then using tweezers start pulling off the filament.
Once you get most of it off, you can clean up with a small wire brush.

Cotton swabs work well too (with it hot)

Remove the fan duct (2 screws) for better access.

Once the outside is cleaned up work on the inside. Remove the tension screw and spring and swing the arm “down”. With the heater on push the “clog rod” into the top of the extruder and push put as much plastic as you can. Be careful not to squirt hot plastic on your hand.

At that point I’d do a “cold pull”. With the heat on push filament in by hand until it extrudes. switch heater off and watch the nozzle temperature. When it hits 140 ° break off any plastic clinging to the outside if the nozzle. When it hits 120 ° pull the filament out. Inspect the end of what you pulled. If it has a 0.4 mm “nipple” you are done. Trim the end of the filament and repeat until you get nipple.

Heat again and tighten the nozzle.

Note: “Bubbling” is a STRONG indication your filament is wet
