Blank screen after plugging in USB cable

Hello folks. Hoping someone might have some thoughts or suggestions foillowing a failure for the touchscreen to display after plugging in a USB cable I fully severed the Red 5V+ wire before installing onto the printer. However after turning the printer on I believe I heard a pop and the screen went dead. I honestly don’t know if there was catastrophic damage to the mainboard or not. I have tried solutions quite like re-installing firmware on the touchscreen…no-go. Then also tried to re-install new firmware for the main system….again a no-go. All I can really say right now is that when I power on the printer, the touchscreen displays for a nano second, then goes blank.

Any thoughts to the issues would be sincerely appreciated!

Eric

Welcome to the forum

Did you insulate the cut wire before plugging in?

This sounds ominous…

Power your printer and unplug it from the wall, wait 5 minutes and retry.

If that doesn’t work turn the printer off and attach a unmodified USB cable plugged onto a phone charger or similar. Does the screen come on?

Hello cardoc. Thanks for the reply back and your suggestions. I tried the power off for 10 minutes and that did not work out. Then used a brand new cable and attached this to a power bank. The display did not come on at all.,

Can you give me info on this…you broke or cut a wire or just unplugged something before installing on the printer..??
A USB cable for what..??
Can you post a pic..??

Hello Lion. This was an attempt to send print files direct from computer to SV06+ printer. I read multiple instances that the +5V USB should be taken out of the picture. I was not overly comfortable with just putting tape over the USB-A pin, so i removed the sheath…found the red wire…confirmed it was the right wire for the 5V and then cut it to remove it fully out of the picture. But as soon as i turned the printer on there was a “pop” type of noise and the touchscreen display went dark. I have tried a number of things to troubleshoot, but nothing has worked out. As much as i tried to do everything as safe as possible, i am concerned that the mainboard is toast. Just not sure how to confirm this at all.

Hello,

This is a standard recommendation for using Octoprint: remove the charge of the USB cable. It’s nothing unusual, and in fact it’s mandatory.

It looks like the motherboard has burned out.

Send an email to info@sovol3d.com with your order number. If your printer is under warranty, they will send you a new motherboard.

Otherwise, you will have to buy a new one. Fortunately, it is not very expensive.
