I’m working on modifying the toolhead for my Sovol SV08 and ran into an issue - it seems the toolhead board got damaged during the first homing attempt. Since then, the connection between the mainboard and toolhead board has been lost and won’t reestablish.
I contacted Sovol support and they sent me the upper part of the toolhead electronics as a replacement part, but they cannot provide the base PCB (the actual toolhead board).
My question is: are there any alternative solutions that don’t require replacing the entire cable harness to the toolboard?
I’ve seen some discussions about:
Using CAN bus toolheads instead of USB ones
Adapters for different toolhead systems (like Stealthburner mounts)
Potential firmware workarounds
Has anyone successfully replaced or bypassed a faulty SV08 toolhead board? I’m open to both hardware and software solutions, as long as I don’t have to replace the whole wiring harness.
Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated!
Additional context: I’ve seen people mention the Sovol Zero Toolhead which uses CAN communication, but I understand the SV08 uses USB. There’s also discussion about using external Raspberry Pi setups, but I’m not sure if that would help with the toolhead board issue specifically.
I’m not sure I understand what you want to replace. Do you have pictures of what was broken and what you received?
I’m surprised sovol support would be unable to sell you the required PCBs. I got both toolhead PCBs from them a few weeks ago. No cable replacement needed for that.
I need the full pcb set for the toolhead but i hove only become the small pcb not the big one. they just announced to me per mail they don’t have them in stock an i do not want to wait till they have the parts again so i looking for a replacement.
Ok, then I guess you could order a complete toolhead for the SV08 from sovol. Not cheap.
Are you sure the problem is in the bottom toolhead pcb?
Some people have modded their sv08 to use the toolhead from the sovol zero but I think you would need to modify the cable on both ends plus add a usb-canbus converter. Not sure maybe other people at this forum can tell you more.
don’t know which of the two boards is defective, and I don’t want to mount the new small PCB onto the old one only to find out that it’s defective again afterward.
no no warranty i messed them up by myself so i payed for it.
yes i found out by now myself i think i will mod my sv08 with the zero tool head and my self designed print head will be the star on a self designed and build 3d Printer
