Taco bed

Hi all.

I am thinking of buying the Sovol sv08 and I see a lot of people have problems about the heat bed not being level (Taco). Is this a deal breaker or am I just overreacting to this.

I have been using Bambu printers for the last few years and would like to have an open source printer that I can tinker and learn with.

Many thanks

Mick

I won’t weigh in on the bed situation except to note that not every unit has issues with “taco bed”. It seems to “luck of the draw” as to how yours will work. Review this thread for more background.

The Eddy sensor upgrade is newer than that thread and seems to help.

I’ll point out 2 other things you could consider.

  1. Sovol is not really “open source”. Their Github is very out of date. Their printer specific repositories don’t include their fork of Klipper AND their Klipper repo is NOT the repo they use to generate the version of Klipper shipped on new machines.
  2. The “all in one” MCU and Linux host mainboard is an upgrade nightmare. The H616 System on Module requires significant changes to mainstream Armbian to run.

If opensource is important to you the only way to get an real opensource Sovol printer is to buy a SV06 (not the Ace) and add a raspberry Pi and touchscreen (Sovol’s Klipad50 has a different oddball host computer).

Or build a Voron.
