So, the SVO8 is fast. Coming from Ender life (yes, I still tinker with my Enders), it’s refreshing to have a printer that just works. But I feel like I’m missing something.
Here’s my setup:
Nozzle temp: 210°C
Bed temp: 55°C
When I print with these settings, the print comes out okay, but not great. However, when I bump the nozzle to 235°C while keeping the bed at 65°C, my first layer becomes blister city, though the rest of the print looks fantastic.
So here’s my dilemma:
Should I stick with the filament company’s recommended temps (my Ender brain says yes)?
Or should I trust the Sovol’s speed-focused design and print hotter, even if it means dealing with first-layer blisters?
On a side note, I really regret updating Moonraker. I lost my timelapse functionality (big sigh). A heads-up about “this is Klipper Lite; do not update it” would’ve saved me from this mess. My Klipper + Ender brain cost me big time.
Any advice or insights would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I’m new to OrcaSlicer and just started using it after getting my Sovol printer last Sunday. I’m currently working on calibrating it and running test prints. So far, the results have been all over the place.
One of the first things I printed was the “filament fix” file that came on the USB drive, which I quickly realized I needed. Watching it print was fascinating—it was fast and hot (or at least it seemed that way to me). Despite my doubts, the print turned out great!
Coming from an Ender printer, I found myself second-guessing everything. I know the Sovol can handle higher speeds than an Ender, but it feels odd to push it too far, especially when my Ender mindset leans toward slower, more cautious settings. Running it at full speed all the time seems like it could wear it out faster, though.
So, here’s my question:
Should I calibrate for high speeds and save those settings for when I feel adventurous? Or is there a “sweet spot” for everyday printing speeds that balances longevity with performance?
This Sovol is clearly faster than an Ender, but how fast is too fast? I want to make sure I’m not overworking it while still getting good results.
I’m pretty sure the default profile is in the middle for the SV08, fast but you still get good prints.
You could probably double your speed & just as well print slower.
Leaving it at the defaults is best until you used it for awhile, then you can experiment if you want to.
