Slanted front idle pulleys

Hey guys, recently while doing prints i start hearing a weird noise. First i thought was lubrication of the rails, and i did lubricate them properly, but the noise has been increasing.

After checking internet, people suggested the pulleys could be the issue and i went to check.

The first sign that actually confirmed it was grains of dust near the pulleys, also the belts, in some spots are also “degraded” indicating it is in fact rubbing into somewhere.

After looking more closely into the gantry couplers in front, the screws also show that the pulleys are inclined…

I assume this is yet again one of the short comings of the SV08 shenanigans that i somewhat keep reading about in the internet. This SV08 is supposed to be the revised model (bought roughly 2 months ago).

Both sides suffer from the same problem…

What is the best way to solve / fix this? Ideally i would like to keep the existing parts since the printer is practically new… I also thought about emailing support about it, they have been helpful in the past, but given what i read, i would like to have other peoples opinion on it before doing it.

Hello,
In my opinion, the best way to resolve your issues is to send an email to info@sovol3d.com, including your order number and a detailed description of all your issues.
They will respond within a week.
Good luck

I had a similar issue where I could actually see the belt twisting as it reached the adjuster. Lots of belt “dust” as well. Support sent me new Y axis mounts, pulleys, and belts. I changed them and while a little better the issue was still present. I did request the adjuster mounts but they requested more evidence. I had been looking at the Nadir CN3D gantry upgrade as I am doing INDX so opted to go that route. To me at least seems more stable than the OEM stuff.

Not a knock on Sovol Support at all as they have been great to me. Just wanted to go in a different direction.

I don’t own a SV08 but looking at the CAD file it looks like If you tighten the clamp bolts in stages you should be able to adjust the slope of the belt roller by using a small flat blade screw driver as a “wedge” to achieve the perfect position.

A more elegant solution would be to drill the housing and install 2 thermoset m2.5 inserts concentric with the springs. Screws could then be used to tip the roller prior to tightening the clamp bolts.

That’s one of my problems, i tried checking screws and a guide on how to do it and i’m not sure. By “tighten the clamp bolts in stages” do you mean the 2 screws on the side after i loosened the belts?

The second part… thanks for the time to write that, but i’m not really savvy enough to handle it? even if i was i don’t have the materials to do it accurately.

The yellow arrows point to the clamp bolts.

When done, the line through the center of the bolts (red) should be parallel to the Z axis (green).

If you fully tighten one bolt with the other loose the pully holder (black piece that the screws tighten into) gets “torked” to one side. If you tighten the 2 bolts in several small steps the pully holder gets locked down without getting twisted,

Makes sense, thank you for confirming.

Also, maybe dumb question, wouldn’t putting a big washer under the pulley, since it would go over the black and the bluet part, solve the issue permanently since it would stop the slant from being able to happen? If it wouldn’t hinder the pulley, it could solve the mess from the pulley even being able to incline.

I downloaded the cad files, opened them, found the parts and now understand what you originally meant with the drilling holes. Thats a good idea, thanks good sir.

If all else fails or becomes too complicated, il try that.

So i don’t leave this thread hanging, in case anyone having similar issues, my solution ended up just following the guide from sovol, the support e-mail pointed me into it. The adjustment of the side screws ended up being just adjusting the belt tension. Belts then in turn keep the belt centered and screws relatively parallel.

The guide can be seen here: Abnormal noise when AB axis auto home | Sovol 3D Printer Wiki

We better start checking the belt tensions more often…
