Hello,
I have the same dryer, but I’ve only used it once. My filaments have never been wet enough to need the dryer even when I let them outside
Hi @mich0111
I just got the dryer for a really good price, it’s my first time using the dryer and I thought I’d try it out with some old PLA filament that I had sitting in vacuum bags for a couple of months, the humidity in the bag was ~23% if those cheap readers are close to reality
Anyway, I digress… ![]()
It’s still pretty humid where I live, April showers and all, so I set it for a 8 hour cycle. About 2 hours in I noticed the dryer gets extremely hot underneath using it’s default feet and decided I should raise it up a bit to prevent possible issues with the surface it’s sitting on. Thus a project was born ![]()
After using the riser legs and letting it run for another 8 hour cycle, the underside remained much cooler and worked well enough.
Cheers,
-Mike
I’m not talking about your project. If you like it, that’s a great reason.
I just don’t think I’ve ever had filament that was wet enough to fail printing.
So I wonder if such a device is useful.
Got it ![]()
For my needs the dryer works great, and I find it useful.
I have seen a difference using them specifically with cheaper PETG filament stringing, PLA brittleness, and PLA flexible filament stringing I posted about a while back. After using a dryer on them, I had a lot less stringing and issues with the filament. Overall the prints just looked cleaner so now it’s just a routine for me to idle them in the dryer.
Biggest issue I have when using both the SH01 and SH02 for drying filament is the moisture build up while drying the filament. Periodically I lift the lid to let the trapped moisture out, The Sovol SH03 and other newer dryers from others now come with a “Auto Dehumidification” feature.
In general, mileage may vary for the need, I’ve seen mixed points about them…
Cheers,
-Mike
P.S. Last but not least, if anything, filament dryers also make great desiccant dryers!
