what setting do i have to change to get better 1st layer and edge detail? currently its printing every 1st layer like in 400 pixel “quality” or smth, while it should be 1px precision, because its a 3d model…
and if i add like a gear pattern around a cylinder, it prints the 1st couple of layers in random straight line complete mess… especially when there is a high support under it…
If you post pictures of your model, the first layer in the slicer and the first layer printed it might be possible for others to comment on whether your issue is a slicer setting, your Z offset or something else.
i just checked that the sliced model looks completely normal and the printer doesnt knock anything off the table, so the offset should be fine too? its just couple of small and actually the whole big gear pattern areas that get really low quality for some reason…
and why does it even print a gear model in straight lines when a gear is something completely opposite of that ?
There are many possible things I can think of that might cause what you have described and pictures are probably the best first step to find the problem.
what are those things and why are the pics important? it probably takes too much time to upload and its always just the same - 1st layer’s random detailed edges are printed completely poorly and after that it looks completely fine, except for the fact that, because the 1st layer was so poor (more on the right side this time), 1 side even started to warp upwards, just because there was not enough adhesion to the plate… because of the random mess in the detailed corners, during the 1st layer(s)…
Stepper motors “step”. They do not have the capability to move in spirals and arcs.
ALSO your source model is a “mesh”. Mesh files HAVE NO CURVES. Zoom in you’ll find that your model is nothing but flat triangles or “quads”. Slice any mesh at any angle and the result is a bunch of straight lines.
So tune your printer:
Z offset
flow rate (changes with every filament change)
pressure advance (changes with every filament change)
Once you can print a perfect benchy (or other KNOWN calibration test) then:
seek out high quality source models
Play with slicer settings:
Number of parimeters
Base layer pattern
Set wall model to Arachne
Gears are hard. These had at least 20 setting iterations before I started batch printing them.
Nice gears! Here’s one of mine, a double throated worm drive printed in PPA on my zero. Also took plenty of iterations and will likely take many more before I achieve my goals.
