Extruder temperature so far out of whack, unit won't start

On my unit recently, I started having issues with the temperature jumping around so bad that it shuts the unit down when it jumps out of the parameters.

I tried reflashing the klipper with the standard firmware, but this changes nothing.

I got a brand new hot end, extruder and everything and still the temps when it starts are crazy..example -91 and so on, so I can’t get past the startup to do anything.

Does anyone have any ideas? Reflashing the emmc, flashing the mainboard, or anything else or someone might have run into this.

Thanks in advance,

John

90% chance you have a broken wire in your extruder thermistor.
9% chance you have a broken thermistor wire in either the printhead or bed umbilical.
1% chance you have one of 50 different issues.

Download your klippy.log from your Klipad, zip it and upload and I’ll take a look and see if I can narrow it down.

Thank you, I wonder if the file is available as the klipper pad keeps quitting due to the heater issue mentioned. The hot end is new and as far as the bed umbillical, i’m unsure of where to find that. I also happened to order a new ribbon cable, as it seems to be wore on the edges in a couple spots.

You should still be able to connect with Mainsail or Fluidd with the MCU disconnected. The log file is “on” the Klipad not the MCU board.

The bed thermocouple wires are at one edge of the ribbon. High likelihood that is your problem.

Looking a little closer with some magnification, one of the outer wires is actually broke, so that would make sense on the thermocouple for the bed. Since the hotend is new. I just ordered a new cable and will proceed from there.

Thanks again for your help, its appreciated.

Usually is the tiny wires where the thermistor is soldered to the extension wire.

Don’t hesitate to try and splice the broken wire. The thermistor resistance is high enough that a couple ohms at a temporary splice won’t matter.
