Merely posting this in case anyone else besides just me would be interested, but the SV08 Max seems like it would be the ideal machine for the Bondtech INDX multi-toolhead upgrade kit, whenever it becomes available:
Why do I view the SV08 Max as an ideal platform for this upgrade? Because it’s so big! That translates into easy access without cramping as well as the capability and space to potentially hang a lot of toolheads, should you ever want to. Also, the open source Klipper access is yet another bonus enabler that the SV08 Max has but which some other machines do not.
So, for now I’m merely posting this thread to generate interest, make others aware, and as a rally point for people to post to in case anyone takes it on as a project for upgrading their SV08 Max.
I have no affiliation. I’m just hoping someone will blaze a trail that the rest of us can easily follow.
The trade show demonstrator for the INDX was a Voron 0.2. Bondtech has said they are working on an INDX upgrade for the Sovol Zero. I’m interested in that, but my SV08 overhaul is on hold waiting for the INDX for the SV08. The last I heard, Bondtech was targeting November.
I don’t print multiple colors. My interests in the INDX is so I can load all of the filaments I typically use for my functional prints and have a dedicated tool head for each, fed from an overhead dry box, so I can select the filament I want using start G code to avoid manual filament swapping, and so I can print different materials in the same print. That will be handy so I can print TPU feet on a solid ABS part, or I can print a PLA peel-away interface on PETG supports on a PETG part.
The SV08 can easily accommodate more INDX tool heads than I’ll need, and the INDX includes an Eddy probe tool head so that fixes the biggest problem with the original SV08, subsequently corrected with the Eddy probe on the Zero and SV08 Max. For original SV08 owners, the INDX upgrade essentially includes a free Eddy probe upgrade.
One of the big differentiators versus other printers would be whether INDX, together with whatever the corresponding slicer software is, would allow you to use different nozzle diameters on the same print. e.g. do your normal print in 0.4mm, 0.6mm, or 0.8mm to get the speed advantage, but then switch to 0.2mm for printing text on the topmost few layers for added crispness in the lettering. So far this is only supported in Prusa XL’s experimental slicer mode. The bottleneck appears to be in getting the slicer software to do it right, rather than in the hardware.
Target pricing is $250 for the tool head (presumably with the Eddy probe tool) plus $35 per INDX tool.
From other interviews with Bondtech, they seem to be very focused on the Voron and Sovol printers, with support also promised for RatRig and others, and I assume Bondtech will offer complete kits for the various printers perhaps with some small discounts for these bundled packages. I’d like to see them offer two bundles for each printer - one with four tools and the other with however many tools will fit on that printer… which would be a ridiculous number for an SV08 Max. I’d like four filaments on my Zero and eight on my SV08.
Do you have a reference for the INDX delay? The Bondtech website still has their INDX FAQ saying: “We will continue to develop INDX with our community in the following months and plan to launch it during FormNext late November 2025.”
I’m not on Facebook or Discord, so I probably missed a product delay announcement. I haven’t seen any INDX news on YouTube in the last month but was hoping no news is good news and they’re busy finalizing the details and manufacturing a backlog of parts to satisfy the huge initial demand after the product announcement at FormNext later this month.
Like many people, I’ve been waiting to buy an INDX. My SV08 was down for repairs and I decided to wait a few more months and upgrade it to INDX in November and now it’ll be summer of 2026? That makes me a sad panda.
Hopefully any initial bugs are resolved and I’ll have an easy installation. I’m looking forward to having my SV08 back on the job. That will allow me to wait a few extra months to avoid the rush on the INDX when it first ships and not be on the bleeding edge of that product either.
Prusa is planning on using the INDX for a Core One variant. I don’t know how much it’ll cost or when it’ll release.
I did order a Snapmaker U1, and I should have that before Christmas. But I do want to get something with an INDX so I can use more than four filaments. I might get an SV08 Max for it, keep the Snapmaker U1 as a second printer, and sell my Bambu P1S.
Same here. If its End of Q1, i can wait for it. Edy, SV08max with Enclosure and INDX. And OrcaSlicer with mixed nozzle sizes. Even if that will take longer, i´ll wait for it. Would be my ideal setup. I want print technical filaments, not interested in multicolor so much.
