I have the same issues with firmware updates. I think the main trick is to rename the file to something less than 4 characters. I also do not get the .CUR extension either.
As for my freezing issue, I am now working okay with a more modern microsd with sd adapter as well. So far so good anyway. Hopefully it stays this way because I really don’t want to diagnose sd reader issues or buy a new board.
i am on this latest firmware however the Estep calibration does not work for me… changes dont seem to take effect after saving. like if im 15 mm short after extruding 100mm so only 85mm extruded. i can change my new estep value to 488.24 from the 415 it was at and save the new value. when i run the test again im still 15 mm short. when i turn the printer off the values are reset to the standard 415 steps / mm. i should note that if i use pronterface to change it works just fine, but doing it through the on screen menu is when i have problems.
Hi brentfriesen,
my latest firmware version is currently v1.15.6. Also check the correct extrusion tension iot ensure adequate grip on your current filament.
Bjoern if i do it through pronterface there is no issues… only when i do it through the on screen display… i am on the latest version. i have reset the printer countless times changing the values and saving them do nothing. also when the power gets tuned off and i go back into the menu the values are reset to the factory settings…
using m92 and m500 command in pronterface is the only way to save the results. the on screen menu does nothing and after power cycle values changed in the on screen menu disappear and only display factory settings.
if i change the values in pronterface the on screen menu will reflect those changes but then any changes done on screen do not change anything and reset back to the values i programed in via m92 command
Hi again,
your observations exactly match with the bug that urged me to fix firmware v1.15.5 & advance it to v1.15.6. It is quite confusing to hear that this bug is still inside, because other users reported it has been fixed (which is my result after testing v1.15.6, too).
Could you please verify that both display software & firmware version on your SV04 are v1.15.6?

interesting that i upgraded 3 days ago, however i guess i grabbed an old version somehow…
im on 1.15.2 for both display and firmware. can you provide the link to the current versions? i must have grabbed an older one somehow when i flashed a few days ago
Just wanted to say, I’ve had my SV04 for over a year now, and just switched from factory to Bjoern firmware… installed per the Sovol instructions, went smooth, and holy crap is this a step up! I see tha man himself is in this thread, so Thank You Bjoern!
Hi I have flashed my SV04 with your newest firmware in February.
I have run a lot of calibration and have gotten the printer to print okay.
I am running Octoprint, and I noticed that the LCD screen does not open the Printing screen, it seems to open the SDCard file browser. This seems to happen in dual mode. In single mode it seems to work okay. (I need to test this more), do you have any idea as to why this might happen?
Thanks for your work with the firmware, it is nice to use.
Hello BareMaxx & welcome to the forum!
I don’t use Octoprint myself, therefore I can’t help you with this issue in detail. I know that several users are running my firmware version with Octoprint, but never heard of this problem before. I would suggest to have a deeper look into your Octoprint configuration / scripts.
Good luck!
Björn
I looked at your firmware and saw the M1901 GCode command, do you think it would be problematic to manually go to the printing screen with the M1901 S11 command when starting the print?
Bjoern,
Don’t know whether to call it an issue, or if it’s a design choice, but with original firmware when you pressed the “finish print” option, it would center the print bed and park the extruders. With your firmware it just goes back to the home screen on the printer… not an issue, per se, just curious about it.
On a side question, I started a separate thread with some questions on the “suicide switch” mod. Short version is nailing down some part compatibility/swaps to run it as a lit button and planning on hardwiring a power supply for that circuit to obviate battery changes.
And for the record, the more I use it the more impressed I am with the leap in capabilities from factory to your firmware!
Respectfully,
Hello James79,
I skipped the finish print screen due to user requests, in order to enhance Octoprint compatibility.
I’ll answer the suicide switch question separately. Short version: I avoided power cables outside of the cabinet & I never had to change the battery, so far.

Hello there all! I’m quite new to SV04, just bought a used one in very good working conditions.
Now the printer ensures a good print quality at the moment, after a while I spent on calibrations.
I was just looking for improvements when I landed on this forum and immediately signed up, because that firmware looks like a serious improvement to the OEM. Would like to thank @Bjoern for his work, while going to download and give a try.
Greetings from Rome, Italy!
Hello Gae_Tano
Cheers! Have fun with your SV04 & don’t forget to write down your offset data before updating the firmware - otherwise you’ll have to spend the next while for calibration…

So, I downloaded the MB and TS firmware and tried to flash. I assume that the MB one was flashed ok, because the file extension changed from bin to cur. However, I’ve not been able to flash the TS, because, following Sovol instructions, I only get all 000 instructions and the screen is the same as before. Tried with several micro SD cards 8-16Gb ordinarily read by SV04 and after overwrite formatting with SDcardFormatter app (MacOs), but no success. Am I missing anything? Thanks!
EDIT: Just found another thread with the same issue… going to read.
EDIT 2: Just done! I forgot how important is the allocation unit size…
[NEED HELP]
Here I am again. Yesterday, while ending to calibrate the printer, I made a command error on Repetier Host, typing M502 instead of M503. The printer was ok before and flawlessly printed two calibration cubes. After the unintentional EEPROM reset, now the printer fails auto home command, particularly the Y axis does not moves smoothly anymore but very jerky and does not home but comes all forward making the nozzle land out of the plate.
I tried to flash the firmware again but the situation does not change. Now the printer is unusable…
Any suggestion?
Thanks!
