I bought a Knomi for another printer. They’re available for various printers like Voron, BambuLab, and Creality. I’ve even seen them for individual Sovol printers. As long as you can get your hands on the Klipper, it can be used with any printer.
To explain: It’s an ESP32 with Wi-Fi and a small touchscreen. It’s powered by 5V via PIN or USB-C. The Knomi also has a temperature and humidity sensor, accelerometer, I²C interface, and a camera connection. So it’s packed with features.
Initially, I was a bit skeptical. A nice gimmick on the printhead. But after testing it, I see endless possibilities. Operating it on the printhead is the worst idea I can think of. The Knomi can be used as a control unit and status indicator for the printer. It connects to the printer via Wi-Fi. So it doesn’t have to be mounted on the printer and can be placed anywhere within the network.
So, my question is… Has anyone already used it? If so, where and for what purpose? Have any additional functions been integrated besides those of the installed Bigtreetech firmware?
I’m posting this in the SV06 Plus ACE section because that’s the printer I have, but I’d also be interested in its use on other printers.
I looked into it for my A1 Mini.
I have a LED strip using the spare AMS slot, so I would have to remove it in order to install the Panda…so I never looked into it further.
But I agree that it is not necessary, but still useful.
I can access the printer’s web interface from any mobile phone, computer, or… and don’t necessarily need a display on the printer itself. However, that’s not Knomi’s primary function. The animated images provide a quick and clear overview of the printer’s status. The web interface offers more detailed information. If Knomi isn’t attached to the printer, it can even be placed in more private locations for continued printer monitoring. While a smartphone display switches off after two minutes, Knomi doesn’t.
Here’s just one example I found while searching for printables.
