A few questions on updates of Klipper, Moonraker, Mainsail etc

Been following this thread. Has there been any update? I’m thinking of purchasing this printer but want some assurance that mainline klipper can be installed later down the line..m any thoughts on this?

There’s no assurance regardless  I’m considering to get a replacement mainboard to see how far i can get, and some others might take the same or a different route. The gist of it is, if you want to get an open source printer, don’t get a Sovol as there is no help from them in actually making it open source. If we get there, things (like the display) will never work or might not work in a long time.

I bought the ACE on launch because they said it was open-sourced and planned to put mainline klipper on it as soon as I could.

I Never plan on buying anything from Sovol l again unless they stop flat out lies like this. I’d just replace it with a bigtechtree board if I could but I don’t have time to figure it out myself and it’s my only 3d printer. I would absolutely donate to anyone figuring it out though!

Edit: I’ll add that I was able to re-flash stock firmware after trying and failing to update klipper.

Yeah, this is honestly terrible. I bought it for the same reasons. In general I am fairly happy with the printer, but I tried to add some custom tools and it broke because there’s no way to get the printer (as far as my abilities go) to get the printer on mainline klipper.

I was able to restore it after breaking the printer firmware so that is good…but based on the lack of information, source, and updates, it seems like the idea of the printer being open source was just a lie…

I’d happily contribute to some code etc, I just find this all so frustrating and misleading.

What’s there to be done about it? Apart from telling others to not buy a Sovol if they are looking for a 3D printer, not much I guess…I also don’t get the argument about IP, it’s not like this is the gold-standard, top-of-the-line printer that everyone is imitating and would totally copy if only they had more source code…

Oh well. I really hope Sovol changes their mind about this.
