SV06 Plus upgrades

I have a Sovol SV06 Plus. I have an enormous amount of printing time with all components stock. Prints have slowly been decreasing in quality I’m assuming due to wear. I would like to completely upgrade all bearings, stepper motors etc. any thoughts on making a “Super” machine lol. It would be interesting to see if there would be any quality changes with the upgrades. Any suggestions would be great as I’m not familiar with aftermarket components.

Restore it to “like new” or upgrade to make it better than ever?

The main wear items are:

  1. The linear bearing inserts. I’d leave the Z axis alone it gets 1% of the travel of the X and Y. Inserts ate available in many styles and grades. McMaster-Carr
  2. The belts
  3. The planetary gears in the extruder, I’d replace with complete unit from Sovol via Ali Express
  4. The ball bearings in the X and Y steppers. Motors are cheep but I’d put my money in high tolerance bearings to support the side loads created by belt tension.

The rails themselves should be fine but could be upgraded to high precision units with chrome plating or DLC coating

You could adapt a Voron toolhead but IMO that is more about aesthetics than print quality.

Klipper (or Calico) opens the possibilities for an eddy current probe and “touch to zero” Klipper extensions (see Home · vvuk/eddy-ng Wiki · GitHub). Choose a Raspberry PI and DIY touch screen. All the ready to run klipper pads have OS tweaks that limit upgrade choices.
