Today in Modified my often clogging SV08 Max hot end, Installed a Creality K2 Plus unicorn hot end.
Was not a super easy mod as it requires drilling, tapping, soldering and patience, but seems to be working quite well.
Not sure if it needs to be done, the SV08 max hot end is quite good in my opinion, but getting parts for this printer is a bummer. Creality parts are overnight.
Well done! I actually scrounged up a croudsourced CAD model for the K2 with the intention of designing a custom heatsink for the Zero. I never got it done.
If you do a paper test how high is the eddy sensor off the bed? Might need a copper washer (or 2) between the heater and the heatsink OR figure out how to raise the eddy a touch.
I did not do a paper test, the installed height of the K2+ unicorn nozzle is nearly identical to the to the SV08 max hot end. Only had to set the Z offset .01mm closer and looks great.
Yes I have a K2 plus and run PPS-CF10 in it at 330c. I have a Cartographer sitting right in front of the nozzle as well without any problems.
Also why not use the Creality thermistor? You should be able to change it in the config and run it. The SV08 is running klipper so it will recognize it and run without any problem.
The thermistor on the K2+ shows and Ohm reading around 10K at room temperature, the Sovol thermistor has an Ohm reading around 1K.
I didn’t think they would be compatible and I didn’t try.
This is and open-source machine, there may be a way to tell the machine 10k is room temperature, but I am fairly new to 3D printing, and what I don’t know is a lot!
If you know how to do it, I would appreciate your input.
The Zero and the Max ship with a PT1000 installed. Sovol has it defined as [my_thermistor] but if you plot the points it is exactly a PT1000 with a small offset. I assume the offset is to account for the sensor being further from the heater than the “melt zone”.
For anyone still digging into configs and hotend behavior, I bookmarked a handy reference while researching the SV08 Unicorn setup—it helped me sanity-check a few assumptions before changing anything.
