Just wonder if anyone installed Sovol chamber heater? Is it good ?
Saw this on Sovol’s store today, looks like late November? Chamber Heating Module for Zero
I’ve already got it, but i think they are sold out now, Problem is that it doesn’t work due to bad firmware and no documentation whatsoever
I tried the Sovol chamber heater. It works well. It also keeps the internal ABS temperature stable and reduces warping. I think it’s worth it if you’re printing with heat sensitive materials.
I really want to get one of these, but it’s still showing sold out.
The bed eventually gets the chamber up to adequate temp, but it takes a while, and it’s worse since the temps have dropped here.
Until the chamber heater is back in stock, have you tried running the print bed very hot initially? Add something like this to your starting g-code or START_PRINT macro:
M140 S122 ; bed just a few degrees below max to avoid triggering a Klipper shudtown
M191 R47 ; wait until chamber is just a few degrees below target (assuming PETG here)
M141 R50 ; actual desired chamber temp (avoids needless exhaust fan cooling)
M190 R70 ; wait until bed has cooled to desired first layer temp
M191 R50 ; wait until chamber has reached target (should already be there)
Tweak the 47°C chamber “pre-heat” vs 50°C “target heat” so that it takes about as long as the bed to go from 122°C to 70°C
I can run it between 100-110, but if I go any higher, klipper crashes with errors.
yeah, that’s what happens to me when I do 125°C instead of a touch cooler. 110 is quite a bit lower though.
Have you tuned the PID? You might be overshooting due to a bad tune.
PID_CALIBRATE HEATER=heater_bed TARGET=105
SAVE_CONFIG
Once you have mostly good values, try tuning again at incrementally higher temps
Also not a bad idea to tune your nozzle
PID_CALIBRATE HEATER=extruder TARGET=240
There’s also the “Mojave Breeze” Chamber Heater for Sovol Zero (and others) if you want to build your own chamber heater with some AliExpress parts
Building a heater is pretty much where I draw the line on self-builds. The potential failure modes are non-trivial.
Completely understand and agree, just putting it out there for anyone whose willing to try.
This “Mojave Breeze” build does use 100W 24Vdc, not AC mains, which in one way is safer, but in another way more worrisome since it implies its using the Zero’s 24V PSU, which is only 150W in total (its generally light on instructions, which is also worrisome). That Ali page also offers a 24V 70W; either way it should be powered externally.
I can’t actually find any reference to how much heat the official heater puts out!
You should also review this older thread which covers many of the same topics including some pre-heating macros with additional fan controls Chamber Preheat - #29 by bircoe In it 50W is described as pretty limiting, only getting into the high 30s… So either 70W or 100W is plausible.
Any luck with getting your bed above 110°C?
Testing the bed now. I’ve got it running at 120C for ten minutes, and so far, it’s behaving.
And yeah, I really wonder about needing to get a larger power supply to use a DC heater.
After 30 min at 120, no crash, and got chamber up to 41C
So, gonna call the PID calibration a success, but for heating the chamber, barely adequate.
