Zero Orca Slicer Overwrite

I lost all my Sovol printers & settings during the profile setup for the Zero.
Not happy, I’ll have to spend an hour or so inputting them all again.

The latest YouTube video from GerGo Print 3D explains that problem and a workaround for it. The idea is to prevent people from getting into this problem but I think Gergo’s workaround method could help you to recover from the problem with a little added effort.

I’m facing something similar. I have an SV01 that I don’t use anymore, but I do use the SV08 and hopefully soon, the Zero. I need OrcaSlicer to have profiles for the SV08 and the Zero.

My situation is further complicated because the Linux version of OrcaSlicer displays a blank popup window where the printer selection list should be for unfortunates such as me who have one of the incompatible Nvidia graphics cards. I almost think it might be easier to swap the old graphics card back in to install the Zero profiles.

Are you running the Nvidia driver? Swap back to the open source driver and see if you can add printers.

AND I was snooping around Git hub because of your post in another thread. I downloaded the Linux Orca beta release today and looked inside with 7zip (Windows 11) and find no sign of any Zero configurations. Drilling into the Orca beta windows installer finds 1 machine profile, 9 filament profiles, 1 and only 1 process profiles.

I’m not positive but I think you can download the windows installer, change the extension to .zip and open it with your favorite package manager. You could then copy the .jason files.

I just updated to Orca 2.3.1 and it removed the Zero & all my settings once again.
It left the ACE intact.
So again, I lost my printer profiles & filament profiles.
It makes me want to never use this machine again.
I’m so damn tired of this…

Have you opened this as an issue with Orca?

There are almost 1200 open issues but it couldn’t hurt.

Perhaps we can create a Github repo where everyone shares their profiles? This would be an backup for everyone, too.

There kinda is, but so far I haven’t tried it…but I will today.

I forgot that I saved a backup when I put Linux on my laptop, so I got most things back.
The presets didn’t import right, as now every printer says 0.18m Optimal @Sovol SV08.

Sorry to hear you lost them again. Should be an option prior to updating that allows you to select “backup all files” or select “fresh install”. I can try getting your backup configured for a fresh install you’re ok with sending me a copy of it.

I tried the above & it set all the printers to Default Printer.
So I uninstalled Orca & started over, but everything was still there…I forgot to delete the Roaming Orca Folder.
So I uninstalled again & now everything is fresh.
I still have to make some of my filament profiles, but I’ll just copy them from Cura or BS.

I’m still running OrcaSlicer 2.3.1-dev because it seems that every time I upgrade I lose my custom settings that were painstakingly created. When I run OrcaSlicer, it tries to get me to install the latest version, but I’m like, “You’re not getting me on that again.”

Ironically, one of the big features in 2.3.1 is better sharing and management of profiles.

When I do upgrade, I’ll export all of my profiles. PRO TIP: It greatly helps to set the line widths as a percentage of the nozzle width so they scale when a different nozzle size is used.

It’s still not perfect, but I do love OrcaSlicer. I just wish it had more respect for all of the time and effort that I put into developing my own optimized profiles.

You can add a command-line option –datadir to have Orca use a different config directory. I use a separate config directory for nightly so I can run release and nightly without worrying about trashing the configs when I use release.
Also, seriously, back up your config directory before installing/running a new version. On linux, it defaults to ~/.config/OrcaSlicer should be easy enough to identify on other OS’s.
The .18 Optimal SV08 thing is a bug in one of Sovol’s profiles for the SV08, they forgot to add an entry to “compatible_Printers” in the process file. You can hand-edit it in your config directory, and it will stick, at least until Sovol updates the configs again.
