Hello guys, I recently bought a laser module and printed some parts to attach it to the print head mount by removing the whole extruder assembly and screwing the laser module in its place. Unfortunately as you probably know the firmware requires a temparature signal from the hot end before it will even home the head.
Is anyone aware of any firmware to convert the printer into an engraver, or could help with a workaround?

I can think of a 3 work arounds:
Attach a thermistor and let it read ambient. Or look up the resistance of the thermistor at some temperature and use a fixed resistor. Not sure how you plan on controlling laser power in this mode.
Convert to Klipper (host computer needed) and have a separate configuration. Klipper would let you map the heater power (PWM) pins to control the laser power.
Buy a low cost GBRL controller and and connect directly to the X and Y motors (and the laser)
