Does flashing the katapult bootloader and mainline (Kalico?) Klipper have an affect on the 1 year warranty, or does Sovol not care about what firmware we are running?
There are some features in Kalico I’m using on my old printer that would be nice to have on the SV08 - MPC temp control and non-linear pressure advance. I’m also interested in the Eddy but have read from a couple people so far that it’s not any better than the probe the SV08 ships with. Anything has to be better than what the SV08 ships with though. I have to baby step the first layer almost every single print. It’s very frustrating. With my 10 year old Monoprice maker select v2 I can start a print and not worry about first layers, it just works every time. Maybe I just need to go with a Klicky?
I am not sure but each time i had to use the warranty, they just asked about hardware, not the software. But for sure, Sovol will not provide support on klipper mainline. On my side I did it (with Klipper, not Kalico), that worked well.
About Eddy, testing on going but many peaple said that is better. Just eddy is not good to make the Z calibration (only the meshing). The best solutions look like to be either :
Klicky
Eddy NG (with a small “touch” on the bed), for NG, that look like very better to use Kalico (but i am not enought confortable to switch on it for now*).
*From Klipper mainline (after testing all is properly configured), moving onto Kalico look like very easy.
What is the Eddy NG? I’m having trouble finding much info on it.
As far as Kalico, it’s as you said, same exact process to flash as Klipper. You shouldn’t notice any difference at all other than the extra features available. I’ve been running it on my Monoprice maker select v2 (with Octopus pro board) for a while now and it’s been solid.
