My new MAx arrived a week ago. Works fine during the first few days. After a several test print and configuartion change, I start to print big objects (7 hours printing), and the first three almsot good. The enclosure was arrived. After installation, I continue with big objects again. The first 3 was almost fine (printted without any issue), but during the forth one, the print always failed. The first error message:
Lost communication with MCU extra_MCU. …. FIRMWARE_RESTART …. Printer is shutdown
I probe to identified the root of the problem, but it is a brand new machine. I cannot unplug the check the JST connectors, because all of them are glued into its place originally.
After inspection and restart and re-calibration again, start a new print. during the first layer the error msg pop-up again. I thought, ok, lets continue after restart (that is a possibility on the screen). but I got the second error messgae:
Cable visual inspection again. I modified the printer.cfg:
set the run_current from 3 Amp to 2 Amp.
Downgrade acceleration from 40.000 to 8.000 maybe if it is slower and cooler (X and Y steeper motors are clearly and noticeably) it will not drop the connection or tilt down.
driver_SGT: 0
stealthchop_threshold: 0
Slicer: make the whole process slower (acc and speed as well)
Parallel with it, disable camera (disconnect in config and unplug it as well), maybe the USB communication overflows. Re-calibration again.
Print a dozen of XYZ cube to find the proper slicer settings (20x20x20 mad 30x30x30 size from 11 minutes to 37 minutes) without any probelm. Looks good at that point.
Start a big one again, and during the first to forth layer the TMC “extruder” or MCU error again.
Screen versions: 1.0.8
Current versioins: 2.1.9
Latest versions: 2.1.9
Do you have any idea what was the probelem? Many for it in advane.
The connectors are in with hot glue, so a tiny bit of hot air (even a hair drier held pretty far back) OR a drip of acetone will cleanly remove it without damage.
MCU is just “Micro Controller Unit”.. more info on this issue can be found in this thread; MCU 'extra_mcu' shutdown issue
I’d also make doubly sure the enclosure you added isn’t causing the Klipper board, MCU or Stepper Drivers to simply get too hot, as this former of those was an issue right out of the box with my SV07, and it was completely solved by sticking a tiny little fan to ensure fresh air made it over that board (which is part of the touch screen on SV07, rather than on the mainboard next to MCU as it is with your MAX).
Both your errors relate to communication between Klipper host (built into the mainboard) and the toolhead MCU.
Step 1 open a support ticket with Sovol.
Step 2 identify the can hi and can low wires. Inspect for individual connector terminals not “latched” into the plastic connector. Inspect the crimps, give each wire a firm pull and check for movement.
The “extra” is the toolhead.
You can easily pull the hot glue off with tweezers. No heat or chemicals required. Hot melt doesn’t adhere to nonporous surfaces well. Just peel it off.
Thank you very much. After uninstall the enclosure, the situation is the same. I checked both links, and thinking about the next step: somehow need to check the connectors, or maybe create a new cable from the head to the mainboard directly without any interruption with other connectors (there are one on the toolhead, on on the frame and on the mainboard). Both are glued. Order some ferrit ring for the cable and heat sink for ARM and H616 chip. Lets see what will happen. Do you know the exact type of the connectors used by Sovol? JST compatible but which one?
Thank you very much. I wrote an email to support. After a few days of printing it is interest. Went through the official troubleshooting video, and my multimeter show me totally different values (rupture instead of ohm). And now if I would like to start a test print, after a few second of extruding it stop, but if I would like to extrude or retract filament, it works fine (that is the only thing it can do).
After remove the glue, I probe to check all the connectors, maybe create a new usb cable without intermediate connection on the frame (long term plan).
