Hi!

I recently started getting print-issues with my sv08. In the picture you can clearly see the wavy pattern on walls. I am not sure what would cause this defect.

Settings i tried:

- PLA (different brands)
- Temperature (195, 210, 220)
- Speed (100%, 50%)\*
- Different Slicers (Orca, Prusa)
- Extruder Flow (100%, 103%, 106% ,109%)
- Calibrating E-Steps
- Different Models\*\*

I always get those defects on different prints.

\*\* Some models are fine. Benchy printed mostly defect-less.

\* The only difference i could see was with 50%. In fact, the print below is one example. The wavy pattern mostly stops at roughly 2/3 of the height, which is where i dropped the speed from 100 to 50%. The patterns mostly stop and the print gets a lot cleaner. But even then, as you can see on the left corner, they are still there. Just less pronounced.

The question is now:

- What causes this defect?
- How can i get my SV08 to print fast again?

I would appreciate any ideas you might have!

Hello,
Is your model in the print position, I mean, the way it was placed on the build plate?

It is in the position the slicer put it, except slightly moved back.

It looks like you have at least some banding.
That’s the hardest defect to fix.

Banding would show up as an entirely vertical problem, wouldn’t it? Where each layer (or sections of layers) shift on top of each other.
I can’t see that in my prints.

The calibration cubes i printed are perfectly straight.

You might have a partial nozzle clog…this is why it’s more noticeable when you try to print faster.
Try purging 600-800mm at 280\* or do a few cold pulls.

I did install a fresh nozzle quite recently, a month or so ago? But printer has been not working for longer so i don’t think that is the issue.

But i will check if the tension arm pressing the two gears around the filament is tight enough.

Looks like classic ringing. The sharp turn as the extruder transitions from ‘side of hole’ to ‘flat face’ is causing sustained ringing of your printer.

Run the belt check macro. Won’t fix anything but write down what it outputs.

Adjust your belt tension. [SV08 AB axis belt replacement and adjustment tutorial | Sovol 3D Printer Wiki](https://wiki.sovol3d.com/en/SV08-AB-axis-belt-replacement-and-adjustment-tutorial)

Check every bolt for looseness. There are bolts behind the printhead that attach the carriage plate to the linear rail. Don’t remove the printhead unless you see/feel movement when giving the “shake test”.

Lots of good info here: [Welcome! | Ellis’ Print Tuning Guide](https://ellis3dp.com/Print-Tuning-Guide/)

Once you’re sure everything is aligned/tight run input shaper calibration.

Setting a low “square\_corner\_velocity” MAY allow faster overall speeds that don’t trigger “ringing” issues.

There are a many test objects designed to test for ringing.

I did finally “resolve” the defects, though not to my satisfaction.

I had a replacement-extruder, and i swapped it in. The new extruder assembly works as expected.

Sadly i still do not know what the original issue was, and how to prevent it in the future.

Thank you for your help anyway!

It could be the loose extruder pin. Known issue on the sv08.

This is just one model. There are several people have created to fix this.

I personally would print one of these fixes proactively and install it on yours even if it is working at the moment. The pin will likely just work it’s way out as you print.
