New Bjoern firmware,

Have you tried using a small SD card, say 2 GB?

Hi Paul,
no problem at all, many thanks a lot for letting me know. I’ve added a separate note to the wiki page.

I have tried a 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and a 128GB card (with a 500mb partition) with same results.

Try putting 1-3 layers of transparent tape on the side of the card WITHOUT the contact points. May help if your socket is worn/bent.

Hi @cardoc. If you are replying to me, I do not understand how the tape may help in my case. I can see how it may be used to help make contact, but if my 4 different cards can read abc.bin, but not read firmware.bin, being able to read abc.bin indicates that the contacts are making …well, contact.

There are various levels of error correction and fault tolerance depending on how the OS is configured. However unlikely it is not impossible that is an issue here.

The bootloader is ultra stripped down. The “Marlin OS” (for lack of a better term) loaded and started by the bootloader probably is more tolerant of read errors.

My expectations are low but I’ve had board mounted sockets that worked much better if I shimmed the card.

Hi @Bjoern ,

thanks for your work on the improved firmware for the Sovol SV04. I’m using the software since one year now. I also updated it since then, whenever there is a new version.

The only problem I’m facing since I switched from the original software to yours is that sometimes when I start my printer with the switch, one fan in the bottom of it makes weird noises for about 3 to 5 seconds. Is this a problem specific to my printer or is it a familiar problem?

I would be delighted if you could help me with that. Thanks in advance.

Hello BlackPanther & welcome to the forum!
Thank you very much for your kind words. The strange fan noise suggests a hardware issue rather than a software one, which could be resolved by replacing the fan.
However, since there are two fans on the bottom, you’ll first need to determine which one is causing the noise - there’s a case fan that’s fairly easy to replace. The other fan is located in the power supply, which you should only disassemble if you are absolutely sure of what you are doing. If the strange noise stops after a few seconds, I would rather ignore it until it gets worse…

Has anyone managed to install version 1.15.9?

I couldn’t get it to work.

Hello @Holi

I have it installed here. What happens (or does not happen) when you try to install 1.15.9? Why do you think it did not work?

Thanks

Paul

Thank you for your reply.

The problem is solved. I reformatted the SD card in Linux and this time it worked.
