It seems that my amazon basics UPS that does 850VA trips when I test the printer while printing calibration test pieces. That is a $140 UPS that isn’t strong enough. Can anyone recommend one that is adequate? I have no idea for how long it would need to last but power interruptions here are very rare.
If the machine uses up to 1300W for the initial bed heating phase then I’m looking at a $500 UPS (it only handles 1200W). But if the machine only uses 300W while running (not saying what that actually means) then a much cheaper UPS is good.
I can see the wisdom in letting the print die if the power outage hits during the intense warm up phase.
Estimating the power requirements of your printer is difficult. It will vary widely depending on ambient temperature and the heater set points.
By far the largest load is the bed heater. On the SV08 the bed heater is “mains power” not 24Vdc. It would be possible to rewire the printer with a second power cord. Plug the DC power supply into the UPS and the bed heater module into the wall. Wired like this the printer would keep printing until the bed cools enough to trigger an error.
A second 850VA UPS would probably be able to power the bed, post warm-up, with bed temps below 70 °C
